CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MARCH 26, 2018 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to order: Heather Reekie called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Sarah Gaskell and Heather Reekie were present. Also present: Sergeant Jesse Christensen and City Clerk Ellen Clark. Evan Touchett was absent and excused. 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve the minutes from the March 12, 2018 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 2-0. 3. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for Madison Beer Run 5K and .05K on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from Alex Ogden, FourOneFour Events. This event will run from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Madison Beer Run is a chip-timed 5K. They are hoping for approximately 800 people to participate. FourOneFour will be partnering with Hop Haus Brewing Company, which is designated as the end of the event route. Residents along the route whose streets will be closed will be notified of the date and time of the run and street closure on Railroad Street. Volunteer course marshals will be assigned to sections of any streets that need to be closed. Four officers will be assigned to the event. There will be no drinking on the course. Approval of this event will be contingent upon submittal of a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the City of Verona as the Certificate Holder. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve a Special Event Permit for Madison Beer Run 5K and .05K on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from Alex Ogden, FourOneFour Events, contingent upon submittal of a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the City of Verona as the Certificate Holder. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for the 5K Dog Jog on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from Cait Berry, Fetch Wisconsin Rescue. Fetch Wisconsin Rescue is partnering with Wisconsin Brewing for this event for the second year in a row. They are expecting approximately 300 participants this year. The event will be restricted to the business park near Wisconsin Brewing. The entire event will take place on the sidewalk. Three officers will be assigned to direct traffic at three different intersections to allow runners the right-of-way during the race. No alcohol will be allowed on the course, but there will be alcohol served at Wisconsin Brewing. There will be several deposit stations along the route for disposal of dog feces. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve a Special Event Permit for the 5K Dog Jog on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from Cait Berry, Fetch Wisconsin Rescue. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for the Word on the Street 5K Run/Walk and Kids Run on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from Stacey Burkart, Verona Public Library. This is a fundraising event for the Verona Public Library. The event will run from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. The route begins and ends at the library. Runners will cross E. Verona Avenue at Franklin Street. Sidewalk chalk will be used for pavement markings along the route. An officer will be staffed at that location. There will be no alcohol at this event. Parking will be limited due to parking lot reconstruction, therefore participants will be asked to park within designated areas. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve a Special Event Permit for the Word on the Street 5K Run/Walk and Kids Run on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from Stacey Burkart, Verona Public Library. Motion carried 2-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for the Glacier Edge Color Run on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from Theresa Taylor, Glacier Edge Elementary School PTO. This is a fundraising event for Glacier Edge Elementary School. The event will run from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The one-mile route begins and ends at the Glacier Edge playground. There will be color stations along the course at Tower Park and Tollefson Park. The run will take place on the sidewalks. There will be no stopping or directing of traffic during the run. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve a Special Event Permit application for the Glacier Edge Color Run on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from Theresa Taylor, Glacier Edge Elementary School PTO. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Adjournment: Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to adjourn at 5:56 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. Ellen Clark, City Clerk
