CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE APRIL 9, 2018 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to order: Evan Touchett called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Evan Touchett, Sarah Gaskell and Heather Reekie were present. Also present: Chief Bernie Coughlin and Sergeant Jesse Christensen and City Clerk Ellen Clark. 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve the minutes from the March 26, 2018 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 3. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for the Verona Area High School track & field team Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., from Joff Pedretti, VAHS Track & Field Coach. Sergeant Christensen stated this is the second year for this event. It is a fundraiser for the track & field team, and serves as a community service project for the team members. There is no need for police involvement for this event. They are expecting nearly 100 volunteers to work the event. The public announcement system will be used for the race, but there are no noise concerns for the neighborhood. Sergeant Christensen has no concerns. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve a Special Event Permit for the Verona Area High School Track & Field team Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. 4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application for the Verona Artists & Farmers Market to be held at Hometown Junction Park on Tuesdays between May 15, 2018 and October 16, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., from Mona Cassis. Tents and food cart vendors will be placed around the perimeter of the park. They will be utilizing the parking lot to the west of the park for placing some of the vendors. There will be no alcohol consumption or sales. The police department has no reservations about this application. Discussion followed regarding moving food trucks to the east side, nearer the bike trail. The consensus of the committee was to stay informed about how things are going with the market, and make changes or updates as needed. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve a Special Event Permit for the Verona Area Artists & Farmers Market to be held at Hometown Junction Park on Tuesdays between May 15, 2018 and October 16, 2018 from 2:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., contingent upon submittal of a Certificate of Insurance listing the City of Verona as the Certificate Holder. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Adjournment: Motion by Touchett, seconded by Gaskell, to adjourn at 6:20 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. Ellen Clark, City Clerk
