CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE July 11, 2022 1. Call to order: Heather Reekie called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Heather Reekie, Evan Touchett and Phil Hoechst were present. Also present: City Clerk Holly Licht and Lieutenant Jesse Christensen. 3. Public Comments: None 4. Approval of Minutes from the June 13, 2022 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to approve the minutes from the June 13, 2022 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit application from Matthew Giesfeldt for the Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk, on Saturday, August 6 th from 9a.m.- 11 a.m. This will be the 14th year for the Mama Goose Run/Walk. All proceeds from the event go to the Carbone Cancer Center. The 5k course starts and ends at Veterans Park. There will be volunteers at every corner on the course. There will be no police officers controlling traffic for the event. On average, there are 100-150 participants. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to approve a special Event Permit application from Matthew Giesfeldt for the Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk, on Saturday, August 6th from 9a.m.-11 a.m. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A temporary premises description amendment for n+1 Coffee and Beer, LLC d/b/a (n+1) Café, located at 507 Bruce Street for the Mid- Summer’s Night Market on August 6, 2022, from 3-9 p.m. (n+1) is requesting a temporary premises description amendment for a one (1)-day summer market. There will be vendors/makers and food trucks. Alcohol will be served on premise and consumed outdoors within the confines of the barricaded premise. There will be 3 musicians that play live music. The music is intended to be background music, not a concert Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to recommend that the Common Council approve a temporary premises description amendment for n+1 Coffee and Beer, LLC d/b/a (n+1) Café, located at 507 Bruce Street for the Mid-Summer’s Night Market on August 6, 2022, from 3-9 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. 7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A temporary premises description amendment for n+1 Coffee and Beer, LLC d/b/a (n+1) Café, located at 507 Bruce Street for the Christkindlmarkt on Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (n+1) is requesting a temporary premises description amendment for a one (1)-day Christmas market. There will be vendors/makers and food trucks. Roll Call: Heather Reekie and Evan Touchett were present. Phil Hoechst was absent and excused. Also present: City Clerk Holly Licht, Lieutenant Jesse Christensen and Sergeant Matt Lovell. 3. Public Comments: None 4. Approval of Minutes from the May 9, 2022 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to approve the minutes from the May 9, 2022 Public Safety and Welfare Committee minutes. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit application from Anne Schwarzwalder, Brazen Dropouts, for Verona Day at the Races, on Sunday, July 10 th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This is the second year of this race event. The race will start and end at the high school. The bike course is 1.2-mile loop around the high school will 11 different race categories and start times throughout the day. The 5k run will take place on the high school cross country trail. There will be an officer at West End Circle and Wildcat Way. There will be a Food Truck onsite and tents in the parking lot for the bike teams Lt. Christensen stated that the time may adjust depending on the number of participants and the organizers will let the City know. The PD will help direct people to the main pool. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to approve the Special Event Permit application from Anne Schwarzwalder, Brazen Dropouts, for Verona Day at the Races, on Sunday, July 10th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit application from Lisa Olmsted, Verona Area Historical Society, for Happy Birthday Verona, on Thursday, June 30 th from 5-10 p.m. This is an event to celebrate 175 years of Verona. There will be music, cake, face painting, a petting zoo, and a scavenger hunt for kids at Hometown Junction Park. There will be barricades blocking off a portion of Railroad St. for additional seating. Area businesses will be notified of the closure. July 1st will be the rain date if there is bad weather. The barricades will be moved to the intersection of on Railroad and Main St. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to approve with a rain date of July 1st. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: An application for a “Class A” Intoxicating Liquor and Class “A” Fermented Malt Beverage license from Costco Wholesale Corporation, d/b/a Costco Wholesale #1491 located at 1000 Batker Ct., Silvia Comunale, Agent Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to recommend that the Common Council approve An application for a “Class A” Intoxicating Liquor and Class “A” Fermented Malt Beverage license from Costco Wholesale Corporation, d/b/a Costco Wholesale #1491 located at 1000 Batker Ct., Silvia Comunale, Agent. Motion carried 2-0. 8. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Approval of alcohol license renewal applications for the 2022-2023 licensing period Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to recommend that the Common Council approve alcohol license renewal application for the 2022-2023 licensing period. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Approval of cigarette and tobacco products retail license renewal applications for the 2022-2023 licensing period Motion by Reekie, seconded Touchett to approve the cigarette and tobacco products retail license renewal applications for 2022-2023 licensing period.
