PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER COMMITTEE
MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2013
1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson William McGilvray at 5:30 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Present: William McGilvray, Luke Diaz, Heather Reekie. Also present: Chuck Buell and
Steve Sundstrom from Hometown Development, Jim Ferrolli, Verona Press, Bob Gundlach, City
Engineer, Mayor Jon Hochkammer (arrived at 6:00 p.m.), Ron Rieder, Director of Public Works.
3. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to approve the minutes of the October 28, 2013 meeting
of the Public Works/Sewer and Water Committee. Motion carried 3-0.
4. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to approve Change Order #1 for the Lincoln Street
Culvert Replacement and Channel Modifications for an addition to the contract in the amount of
$20,281.46. Motion carried 3-0.
5. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to approve Change Order #2 for the Lincoln Street
Culvert Replacement and Channel Modifications for an addition to the contract in the amount of
$4,067.29. Motion carried 3-0.
6. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to approve Change Order #2 for the Liberty Business
Park-Street & Utility Construction for a deduct to the contract in the amount of $7,100.00. Motion
carried 3-0.
7. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Reekie, to approve Change Order #3 for the Liberty Business
Park-Street & Utility Construction for an addition to the contract in the amount of $3,836.15. Motion
carried 3-0.
8. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Reekie, to approve Change Order #4 for the Liberty Business
Park-Street & Utility Construction for an addition to the contract in the amount of $1,395.60. Motion
carried 3-0.
9. Discussion regarding the proposed Hometown Development in Hawthorne Hills. Mr. Buell and Mr.
Sundstrom were present to discuss the proposed Traditional Neighborhood with a 52 foot right of
way consisting of a street width of 28 feet face of curb to face of curb, six foot terrace and a five foot
sidewalk. There were concerns raised about the narrow streets as it related to Public Safety and
Public Works maintenance activities. It was suggested the parking restriction would need to be in
place so parking would only be allowed on one side of the street or year around alternate side
parking. The alleys would be privately maintained and language would need to be incorporated into
the Developer’s Agreement regarding this matter. No action was taken by the Committee.
10. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn. Motion carried 3-0. Time: 6:40 p.m.
