CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER COMMITTEE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2017 1. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Diaz at 5:18pm. 2. Roll Call: Present: Mac McGilvray, Luke Diaz. Also present: Theran Jacobson, Director of Public Works; Jeff Mikorski, City Administrator; Jeff Montpas, AECOM. Excused: Evan Touchett. 3. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to approve the minutes of the January 23, 2017 meeting of the Public Works/Sewer and Water Committee. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Mr. Jacobson presented the status of the Pavement Rehabilitation program (also known as Mill and Overlay). Mr. Jacobson noted the program focus has always been on pavements: crack filling, seal coat, spot curb and gutter repairs, etc., but the primary focus has been on asphaltic pavements and not concrete pavement. This is due to growth of the City of Verona and the expansion of the outlying developed areas with asphaltic roadways. This program is evolving as the program will change as roads are constructed or re-constructed. Mr. Jacobson noted the program focus needs to address concrete pavement issues along E. & W. Verona Avenue so we do not have another premature road failure like S. Main Street on our hands. As noted, the joints on S. Main have failed beneath the surface but the joints on Verona Ave will, or have, failed at the surface. The asphaltic patches along Verona Avenue are evidence of this. The focus would be on E. Verona Ave and move westerly. The program will still involve crack filling, seal coat, asphaltic pavement, concrete pavement, and spot repairs of curb and gutter as in the past. The Public Works committee provided Mr. Jacobson a consensus to proceed with a program to address concrete pavements and all other aspects of pavement rehabilitation. 5. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to recommend approval Resolution R-17-014 authorizing Mr. Theran Jacobson as an employee of the responsible unit for planning, constructing, or operating a recycling program. Motion carried 2-0. 6. MOVED by McGilvray, seconded by Diaz, to recommend awarding contract to Parisi Construction of Verona, WI for Project 2015-104 Downtown Street Scape Stage II & III in amount of $1,823,551.15. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Discussion regarding land sale at 2760 N. Nine Mound Road. Mr. Jacobson noted the sewer ordinance would allow development of this parcel but other coordination efforts with staff need to be completed and action will be taken at a later meeting. No action taken. 8. MOVED by Diaz, seconded by McGilvray to adjourn at 5:37pm. Motion carried 2-0. Mac McGilvray, Acting Chairperson
