6.12.18 Meeting Minutes
Note: There are no May 2018 meeting minutes as we did not have a quorum at the meeting.
Call to Order Motion by Kohl to call the meeting to order at 6:25 PM, seconded by Cronin, approved 2-0.
Roll Call Present: Katie Kohl, Kate Cronin, Mary Hanson. Note: Charlotte Jerney was chosen to fill the
vacant District 3 Alder seat at the 6.11.18 Council meeting, and will join the Senior Services Committee.
Approval of April 2018 Minutes Motion by Cronin, seconded by Kohl, approved 2-0.
May/June 2018 Director’s Report
Overview of Verona Senior Center programs and services for new members.
Parking lot replacement work continues.
Verona Press published an article on our Rendever Virtual Reality equipment.
We were nominated by Monona Senior Center for the Wisconsin Assn. of Senior Centers “Edison,
Bell, & Einstein” award for innovative programming.
Request to change the name from “Senior Citizen Commission” to “Senior Services Committee”.
The term “Senior Citizen” is considered outdated and all other City Council assignments identify
themselves as a “Committee” rather than a “Commission”.
Dementia Friendly Community Report
Club 108 meets weekly on Wednesdays, and also on 1st & 3rd Tues. during the Caregiver Support Group.
Educational presentations by the Alzheimer’s Assn. were held on April 4 & May 2.

April Office/home visits/outreach total: 84 April Groups: Caregivers, Veterans group
April Training or outreach meetings: WI Alzheimer’s Institute re: Community Paramedics, DICE training,
Vet’s trip to New Glarus Brewery, CVMIC training, TRIAD meeting, TRIAD scam presentation, outreach at
Verona Public Library, Sugar Creek, Prairie Oaks II, Evia, Park Verona, Schettler Terrace, and Noel Manor.
May 2018 Case Management Report
May Office/home/outreach total: 82
Activities:
Sent summer newsletter to seniors receiving home delivered meals.
Developed plan for new “Friendly Call” volunteer program.
Planning a new program to increase home visits of individuals identified as at-risk.
Posted weekly info for Mental Health Month re: connections between physical & mental health.
Updated Friends of Verona Senior Center Web site on vet’s events and case manager info.
Groups/Events:
2 Caregivers support groups
Caregiver’s Lunch
Veterans group meeting
Vet’s event May 12 - Jeff Dostalek (Fitchrona EMS) took photos of veterans, 10 attendees
Triad presentation on Human Trafficking
Training or outreach meetings:
Outreach at Schettler Terrace, Park Verona, Sugar Creek, Evia, POSH, Noel Manor, & Verona Library
Toured Agrace Grief Support Center and learned about program offerings.
Attended Middleton Case Manager meeting on Elder Abuse.
Met rep from American Legion to discuss upcoming Veteran’s events and collaboration.
New Case Manager, Kim, trained and delivered home delivered meals.

Special April Programs: Birthday Anniversary party w/music by Jim Hetzel, Volunteer Appreciation
luncheon with music by Tom Waselchuk, Bus trip to Milwaukee’s Basilica of St. Josaphat and Mitchell
Park Horticultural Domes, Grandma’s Apron Strings presentation, Brain Basics class, Spanish Class, Arbor
Day celebration, Badger Prairie Cooking Classes, Great Courses “Mysteries of Human Behavior”.
Special May Programs: Birthday Anniversary party w/music by Jesse Walker, Mother’s Day lunch with
the Retro Swing Band, Senior Hike, AARP Safe Driving Course, “Healthier Habits for a Healthier You”
presentation by the Alzheimer’s Assn., bus trip to see “Happy Days” musical at the Palace Theater,
“Recording Your Life Story” presentation, Great Courses “Mysteries of Human Behavior”.
Exercise Class Changes: Two exercise classes that had consistently low numbers have been canceled. A
new exercise class for people with Arthritis will start in August.
Financial Update April: We are 35% through the year, and have spent 27% of our budget.
Financial Update May: We are 43% through the year, and have spent 32% of our budget.
We are over the expected YTD expenses in a few areas and are working to get back on target.
Friends of Verona Senior Center Report
The Friends are planning a major fundraiser on July 28, a Family Festival/Street Dance in the parking lot.
Adjournment Motion by Cronin, seconded by Kohl, approved 2-0. Adjourned 7:08 PM.
