Town of Vienna 127 Center Street South Vienna, VA. 22180 p: 703-255-6300 TTY 7111 Meeting Minutes Board of Architectural Review Work Session Friday, January 11, 2019 8:00 AM Vienna Town Hall Work Session 100-102 Maple Ave E - Sunrise of Vienna The Board of Architectural Review met in a work session in the Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center Street, South Vienna, Virginia 8:00am Friday January 11, 2019. The following members were present: Roy Baldwin, Michael Cheselka, Laine Hyde and Patty Hanley. Paul Layer absent Andrea West Planner was present. Mr. Rust and Mr. Fleming, architects, and Mr. Jerry Young, Vice President Sunrise, were present to discuss proposed revised plans for a MAC rezoning project at 100-102 Maple Ave Mr. Rust began the presentation explaining the revisions from plans from the previous work session to the current work session. Board members gave the following recommendations during the meeting: - More elaborate bus stops or match other current bus stops on either side of Maple - Removable benches and or planters in the pocket park - Choose a burgundy color or similar color that would age rather than look dirty - Vary hedges in pocket park following the curves and coming out as far as possible in keeping with the 12 ft. width of a truck. - Plantings that follow the hard scape patterns to create more texture enrich with landscaping variety changing in vertical dimension, scaling up and down with relationship to the building. - Rear façade facing away from Center St. needs some architectural elements that are similar to architectural elements reflected on the Center St. side. - Vary setbacks a little above the 3rd floor. - Rear façade (A4.2) needs to be broken up with something similar to the tower, changing the corner, stepping it down, setting it back, and different detailing. - Pay attention to the mixing of uses at the bus stop: one side specific for bus riders, one side specific for residents to eliminate confusion. - Use material from front tower on Center St pillar. - Push back gate in rear delivery area to bring away from pedestrians area.
