127 Center Street South Town of Vienna Vienna, VA. 22180 p: 703-255-6300 TTY 7111 Meeting Minutes Board of Architectural Review Work Session Thursday, September 1, 2022 8:00 PM Vienna Town Hall Work Session The Board of Architectural Review met in a work session in the Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center Street, South Vienna, Virginia, Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 8 pm. The following members were present: Chairman Roy Baldwin, Paul Layer, Michael Cheselka, Linda van Doorn, and Patty Hanley. Staff present: Director David Levy and Planner Sharmaine Abaied. Board of Architectural Review (BAR) work session on the Concept Design for the proposed new Patrick Henry Library and Parking Garage. Applicants: Dave Hallett and Keith Leonard from RRMM- Architects Maryam Mostamandi and Jun Li from Fairfax County The applicants presented a preliminary Concept Design for the new Patrick Henry Library and associated parking garage located at 101 Maple Avenue East. The Board review the proposed changes and made the following recommendations: • Brick colors • Addition of design elements to protect pedestrians • Courtyard Trellis changes • Break up the massing • Integration of garage into design • Addition of pedestrian entrance to garage from Center St. • Possibility of triple glazed windows for exterior • Addition of sloped roofs • Addition of some screening • Narrow planting strip added to the left side of the garage where possible • Working with a landscape architect to update the streetscape concepts • Recessed bricks • Consideration of a brick banded sidewalk • Consideration of flush dry laid brick for sidewalk Respectfully submitted by, Yaska Camacho Castillo Board Clerk THE TOWN OF VIENNA IS COMMITTED TO FULL COMPLIANCE WITH THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT STANDARDS.
