Members present: Chairman Robert Leggett; Peggy James; Robert Holland; Jennifer Morrow; Mark Lander; Deepa Chakrapani Staff Present: Natalie Monkou, Economic Development Manager 2. Approval of the Minutes: A. TBLC-22188 Accept March 10, 2022 Meeting Minutes The minutes of March 10, 2022 were approved as presented. Motion, Robert Holland, second, Mark Lander. Motions passed unanimously. B. TBLC-22189 Accept April 14, 2022 Meeting Minutes The minutes of April 14, 2022 were approved as presented. Motion, Robert Holland, second, Mark Lander. Motions passed unanimously. 3. New Business A. TBLC-22185 TBLC Member Updates Chairman Robert Leggett opened the floor for contributions from members. The free Business Boot Camp sponsored jointly by Economic Development; Fairfax County Public Library, and the Vienna Business Association will continue via ZOOM. Viva Vienna, scheduled for May 28-30, 2022 is seeking additional volunteers. Vienna Business Association will be imitating a health and wellness effort in the coming months with the hope of participating in Octoberfest 2022. 4. Regular Business A. TBLC-22197 Town of Vienna Page 1 Printed on 7/15/2022 Town Business Liaison Committee Meeting Minutes May 12, 2022 Carole Wolfand Award Ceremony Chairman Leggett recognized Paula McGinnis, Owner of Body Grace Fitness and Yoga, recent recipient of the 2022 Carole Wolfand Community Service Award to thank the TBLC for the recognition. Chairman Leggett also thanked committee members for attendance at the April 18, 2022 Mayor’s Volunteer Reception where the award was presented. B. TBLC-22199 Update About Intern Program With James Madison High School Chairman Leggett reported that seven students expressed interest in working with the Town of Vienna. It was generally agreed that the program has potential but will require earlier notice to businesses to allow for advance planning. A subcommittee including Robert Holland, Peggy James, Mark Lander and Chairman Leggett was formed to further refine TBLC involvement in this effort. The subcommittee will meet in July, 2022. B. TBLC-22196 First Fridays: A Monthly Celebration of Local Cultural Communities Chairman Leggett recognized Jennifer Morrow to present the Item for discussion. She stated that the concept grew out of a desire to address adding a cultural component to events in Vienna. Ideas include ways to highlight children and the arts. Manager Monkou noted that any such effort would necessitate contact and/or coordination with Parks and Recreation. Jennifer Morrow and Peggy James will discuss the concept with Lu Cousins, Vienna Public Art Commission. D. TBLC-22200 Upcoming TBLC Major Commitments Chairman Leggett reminded Committee Members that two significant projects are scheduled for this year; the 5 Year Plan, Chapter 4 and the Annual Report. He urged Members to review these documents as a way to familiarize themselves with expectations. E. TBLC-22192 TBLC New Member Recruitment Updates Chairman Leggett noted the termination dates for each Committee Member as follows: • Robert Holland, 1/2023 • Robert Leggett, 8/2023 • Deepa Chakrapani, 5/2022 • Mark Lander, 3/2023 • Jennifer Morrow, 1/2024 Deepa Chakrapani volunteered to assist the Committee as needed, going forward. Currently there are four business vacancies on the Committee. With the approval of Town Council, Tim Fricker will join the committee as a business member, reducing the vacancies to three. F. TBLC-22193 Town of Vienna Page 2 Printed on 7/15/2022 Town Business Liaison Committee Meeting Minutes May 12, 2022 New Business Welcome (April) A brief discussion was held regarding contact information for home-based businesses. Robert Holland distributed new business contact assignments to members. 5. Economic Development Manager Updates A. TBLC-22194 Relevant and Upcoming Town Council Meetings Natalie Monkou, Manager, Economic Development reported on relevant Town Council Meetings, noting the pending decision on outdoor dining and the adoption of the Town Budget. She further indicated that the June 6, 2022 Town Council Meeting agenda includes discussion of the Economic Development parking study request. The June 13, 2022 Town Council Conference Session agenda includes a discussion on changing Massage Therapy business license requests from By-Right to a Conditional Use Permit. Robert Holland shared that the Vienna Merle Norman was opened for business on September 1, 1953. Chairman Leggett and the entire Committee thanked Deepa Chakrapani for her tireless service over the past six years. B. TBLC-22195 Business Appreciation Month Manager Monkou reminded the Committee of Business Appreciation Month activities. 6. Meeting Adjournment Chairman Leggett called for a motion to adjourn. Motion, Committee Member Deepa Chakrapani; second Committee Member Robert Holland. Meeting adjourned at 8:07 PM.
