Roll Call Mike Cheselka, Lu Cousins, Bill Comerford, Michelle Kang, VPAF members:Deborah Kennedy, Kathy Georgen, VPAC Clerk: Kathy Blevins 2. Approval of the Minutes: VPAC22-233 Approve minutes from the November 15, 2022 meeting Ms. Cousins made a motion to approve the November 15, 2022 meeting minutes, Mr. Comerford seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VPAC22-234 VPAF Treasurer’s reports The $4,500 check from the Virginia Commission for the Arts grant was deposited. There is $21,438.27 in the VPAF account. Ms. Blevins will ask the Clerk’s office when a check will be cut from the ornament sales. VPAF needs a grant writer. Ms. Georgen will see if she can recruit someone VPAC22-235 Chairman’s report Mr. Cheselka met with Mayor Colbert who suggested including all upcoming VPAC projects in the VPAC presentation for the Council Work Session on January 23. Per conversation between Ms. Kennedy and Council member Somers, a three paragraph submission to include public art in the Town zoning ordinance will be drafted by Ms. Kennedy and will be included in the ordinance submitted by Mr. Somers to Council for review and approval 3. Regular Business VPAC22-236 Review “A New Day” mural project presentation; review meeting with staff; plan of action - questions and concerns Ms. Kennedy will submit the full presenataion to Leslie Herman by mid-week in order for it to be sent to Council members for review prior to January 23 Council work session. Mr. Comerford made a motion to proceed with the “New Day” project and presentation as written and discussed. Ms. Cousins seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VPAC22-238 Discuss an artist for renderings, drawings, and samples Ms. Cousins will put out a Call for Artists through Arts Fairfax before the new year, and will also request to promote the VPAC/VPAF vacancies. VPAC22-239 Vote to participate in Viva Vienna and Walk on the Hill, and any others? Ms. Kang made a motion to support the VPAC participation in the open-air market on the site of the Vienna Art Society during the Walk on the Hill, as well as participation with Viva Vienna. Mr. Comerford seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VPAC22-240 Vacancies - VPAC - 2, VPAF - 2 An article will be in the January VOICE to help recruit VPAC members, VPAF members and Friends of Vienna members. Ms. Blevins will ask Karen Thayer, Public Information Office, to do a Facebook post as well. VPAC22-241 Thoughts for 2024 VPAC22-242 Cookies with Santa event review Very successful event. VPAC would like to participate next year. Ms. Georgen made a suggestion to have VPAC invest in a pop-up banner for $300-$500 to use at events. This will be discussed at the January meeting. 4. Meeting Adjournment Ms. Kang made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Mr. Comerford. The motion passed unanimously.
