Approval of the Minutes: VPAC23-307 Approve minutes from the June 20, 2023 meeting June 20, 2023 minutes passed as written VPAC23-308 Financial report $26,740 in VPAF bank account VPAC23-309 Chairman’s report VPAF is discussing changing the context and location for a mural project. Mr. Comerford, the VPAF liaison, will present a written report from the last VPAF meeting at the next VPAC meeting. Drain artwork is continuing to be removed by Mr. Chesleka and Mr. Comerford. Use of the Parks and Recreation water truck will be needed to remove the last 2- located on Dominion St. and Park St. 3. Regular Business VPAC23-310 Pipes on Town hall Mr. Comerford made a motion to discontinue the Town Hall pipes project, as the painting of the wall behind the pipes that the artist included in the renderings was not approved by Council. In addition, the artist is not willing to paint the pipes only. Ms. Kang seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The artist submitted five different renderings totaling $1,600. Ms. Biles made a motion to agree to have VPAF pay Teresa Ahmad $250 for her work. VPAC23-311 Cherry street enclosure update Suggestion was made to invite a BAR member to an upcoming VPAC meeting for guidance VPAC23-312 Harmony park update Mr. Cheselka, Ms. Blevins, Leslie Herman met with NOVA Parks staff to determine the best location for the musical instruments. It was decided to have them installed in Town of Vienna Page 1 Printed on 9/22/2023 Vienna Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes August 15, 2023 front of the Caboose facing Dominion St. which will allow for ADA accessibility once alterations are made to a small existing brick walkway. NOVA Parks will draft an MOU. Mr. Cheselka will provide to NOVA Parks an aerial view of the location to include the installation area highlighted with dimensions. Four flowers will total $7,100 (not including installation). Mr. Cheselka will contact an installer suggested by NOVA Parks. Timeline is to have the musical instruments installed by the end of the year. VPAC23-313 New Day recap No further discussion VPAC23-314 2024 initiatives and general procedure updates Mr. Comerford and Ms. Carlini presented the draft of the VPAC Public Art Plan which includes public art policy and process. Edits by the commission should be submitted to Mr. Comerford. Future suggestions: temporary murals on canvas. Poetry sidewalk stamping to include a contest, integrated with DPW’s sidewalk replacement schedule. New business VPAC23-316 VPAC participation in cookies with Santa in December? VPAC/VPAF participation in Cookies with Santa on December 2, 2023 was agreed upon by all members present. 4. Meeting Adjournment Ms. Cousins made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
