BOROUGH OF WALDWICK BOARD OF HEALTH REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, April 18, 2024 The Board of Health Meeting for the Borough of Waldwick was held at Borough Hall in the Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order at 7:31 PM by K. Hillringhouse, BOH President. The Opening Statement was read according to the Sunshine Law and was followed by Roll Call: PRESENT: M. Giordano K. Hillringhouse D. Guy G. Hazley J. Martinello R. Rose D. Palladino A. Paradiso (7:33) K. Tone ABSENT: A. Larro PROFESSIONALS PRESENT: N. Reddy, Health Officer C. Woodward, Administrative Assistant APPROVAL OF MINUTES K. Hillringhouse asked for an approval of minutes from the January 18, 2024 meeting. R. Rose made a motion to accept minutes, which was seconded by D. Guy. ACTIVITY REPORT N. Reddy reviewed the January - March Activity reports. Please refer to reports for specific data. Highlights included: • Yearly audits of Preschool, Elementary, Middle, and High School student immunizations records are in progress. Majority of the schools have been completed, with complying 100%, will be finalized by June. • As of March, COVID hospitalizations and admissions remain low, however influenza activity remains high statewide and nationally, but is beginning to decrease. • Outbreak of Covid-19 and Influenza at The Bristal has concluded as of March. • Blood pressure screening on March 13th at the Golden Club. • Adult Health Clinic services provided by appointment. • Child Health Clinic scheduled for every third Wednesday of the month at 22 Whites Lane. Six children were seen during between January and March, with a total of 14 immunizations were given. • Continued distribution of COVID-19 home test and Narcan. 1  • Consumer and Environmental Reports from January - March: o 3 Plan Reviews o 26 Retail Food Establishment Inspections completed o 3 Temporary Retail Food Establishment Inspection completed o 5 Complaint Investigations o 2 Animal Facility Inspection o 5 OPRA requests completed o 2 Septic Abandonments approved o 2 Animal bites investigated o Emergency response in regards to Tianeptine Recall: Neptune’s fix. • Hearing with Giants Farmers Market held on January 31, 2024 regarding most recent Chapter 24 inspection violations. Repeat critical sanitary violations shall result in summonses or/or closure of non-compliant practices. • Five Notice of Violations issued to establishments for failure to renew health license. • Vital Statistics: o 5 Marriage License applications o 9 Marriage Certificates D. Guy questioned the number of deaths listed on the vital report. C. Woodward stated she will confirm death count and follow-up. • Online Food handler vouchers were purchased and are available from State Food Safety Training. • Hosted an in-person Food Handler Course at the Waldwick Library. • Numerous Health Education Outreach programs including:  Presentations at The Forum School on Identifying Emotions and the Five Senses of Kindness.  Focus on Youth Suicide Prevention (Virtual), open to all municipalities.  Spring Newsletter  Lyme Time! The Importance of Preventing Tick-Borne Illness, presented through the Learning Management Network with 35 attendees.  Babysitting Basics Part 1 and 2  Avoiding Phone Scams  E-blasts on topics including: • Navigating Respiratory Viruses • Have you tested your home for Radon? • Health Education calendar was presented and upcoming health education events are now listed on our website. M. Giordano proposed sponsoring a Walking Club for the community. In the past the Board of Health sponsored the program offering twice a week as part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign. N. Reddy thought it would be a great idea and said NWBRHC can help create flyers and promote. K. Tone noted that when it was done in the past there was a route that went through the town and mapped out how many miles it would be, etc. and left the Commission office open with water. Possible proposed start time of 5:30/6:00, on 2 Wednesdays. Will advertise on the website to promote. J. Martinello noted if it builds up steam possibly can create a step challenge can create a competition over a month. With no further questions a motion to adjourn was made at 8:03 by R.
