BOROUGH OF WALDWICK BOARD OF HEALTH REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, January 16, 2025 The Board of Health Meeting for the Borough of Waldwick was held at North West Bergen Regional Health Commission. The meeting was called to order at 7:34 PM by D. Palladino, BOH Vice President. The Opening Statement was read according to the Sunshine Law and was followed by Roll Call: PRESENT: J. Martinello D. Palladino D. Guy G. Hazley R. Rose K. Tone M. Giordano A. Larro ABSENT: K. Hillringhouse, N. Reddy PROFESSIONALS PRESENT: C. Woodward, Administrative Assistant APPROVAL OF MINUTES D. Palladino asked for an approval of minutes from the October 17, 2024 meeting. R. Rose made a motion to accept minutes, all in favor of approval. ACTIVITY REPORT C. Woodward reviewed the October – December Activity reports. Please refer to reports for specific data. Highlights included: • Yearly audits of Preschool, Elementary, Middle, and High School student immunizations records completed, now scheduling for 2024-2025 school year • As of December, COVID-19 percent positivity, ERD visits and hospital visits has increased for the week ending in 12/28/2024. • Seasonal influenza and RSV activity level is high. • At the local level, as of December there is currently an outbreak at The Bristal involving 28 residents and 1 staff member. There were 2 hospitalizations reported, with no deaths. • Communicable disease investigations included Pertussis, Strep pyogenes and Yersinia cases which were investigated and closed. • Four new travel-associated Dengue cases were reports in October and November, for a total of 112 cases in 2024. • Adult Health Clinic services provided by appointment. 1 • Covid-19 clinic was offered at the Waldwick clinic on October 12th with 22 people being vaccinated. • Child Health Clinic scheduled for every third Wednesday of the month at 22 Whites Lane. 3 Waldwick children were seen during between November and December with 6 vaccines given. • Continued distribution of COVID-19 home test and Narcan. • Consumer and Environmental Reports from October - December: o 27 annual Health Licenses issued, 5 temporary licenses issued. o 15 Retail Food Establishment Inspections completed o 3 Temporary Retail Food Establishment Inspection completed o 3 Complaint Investigations  Complaint investigation dispositions were reviewed o 1 Public Recreational Bathing Facilities o 5 OPRA requests completed o 3 Septic Abandonments approved o 2 Animal bites investigated • Vital Statistics: o 7 Marriage License applications o 17 Marriage Certificates • Online Food handler vouchers were purchased and are available from State Food Safety Training. • Numerous Health Education Outreach programs including: o Community Spotlight for October, November and December. o Presentations and programs held including:  12/10 and 12/12 at the Forum School o Eblast sent including:  Vaccine Clinics: Let’s Stay Healthy Together this Season  Carrot Recall  Opioid Misuse Among Teens  Tomorrow! National Prescription Drug Take Back Day • Health Education calendar was presented and upcoming health education events are now listed on our website. J. Martinello asked how the Health Department we can become more involved with the schools in drug awareness and prevention. C. Woodward noted that NorthWest is working on an opioid initiative that will involve quarterly seminars/presentations in regards to misuse. D. Guy questioned if there are programs available through the school that are being offered to the students. Currently, there are not many programs involving drug education at the High School. D. Guy stated we will follow up at the Commission meeting will inquire about the Opioid initiative and see what programs are being developed. J. Martinello, as the liaison to the Board of Education, will discuss at the next Board of Education meeting about collaborating efforts between schools and Board of Health. K. Tone questioned if Narcan is available at the schools and at what age it is accessible and where. C. Woodward will follow up on the information and report back. C. Woodward discussed rabies clinic that was held on November 7th at the DPW Garage with 54 pets being vaccinated. Better turnout than last year and ran smoothly. 2 C. Woodward discussed meeting schedule for 2025. We currently have four meetings on schedule and everyone agreed for schedule posted. C. Woodward noted that the annual report is being created and will be completed by next month. With no further questions a motion to adjourn was made at 7:58 by R. Rose and seconded M. Giordano.
