Meeting Minutes January 19, 2023 MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTE OF THE BOROUGH OF WALDWICK HELD ON THURSDAY January 19, 2023 AT 7:00 PM OPENING PORTION • Executive Director Mr. Mark Ramundo called the meeting to order and read the Statement of Compliance. • Mr. Ramundo also took the roll call. Present on the roll call were Dr. Raina Parvanov-Dawson, Dr. Mohammad Quamrul Ahsan, David Zilkowski, Dan Montella, David Isaacs and Paul Schatz. • Present from the public: Ted Sanzo • Pledge of Allegiance was read. • Motion made to waive the reading of the minutes for the December 15, 2022 meeting. • Reappointment letters were signed by the members of the environmental Advisory Committee • Dan Montello was appointed to the Environmental Advisory Committee for 3 years • Dr. Mohammad Q. Ahsan was appointed as Secretary to the committee for the year 2023 PUBLIC PORTION 1. Ted Sanzo suggested that the bags for Trex collection be 45” wide and also requested not to leave Trex bags outside the library when the library is closed. 2. Dan Montello mentioned not to place recyclables in the Trex bags OLD BUSINESS Sustainable NJ Bronze Action Items https://www.sustainablejersey.com/actions/ • Anti-Idling Action: o Mark Ramundo to request Patrick an update about the purchase of Anti-Idling signs • Backyard Composting Action: o It was decided to hold a backyard composting seminar on March 9th , 2023 at the library subject to availability of space at the library. o Dave Zilkowski to check with Lori at the library about the availability of a time slot. o During the composting seminar, Dave agreed to give a presentation about recycling - Do’s and Don’ts • Styrofoam collection Program: o A joint Styrofoam collection with Allendale was initiated on January 7, 2023. The Mayor and councilman and borough clerk were present at the collection. o Allendale green team members highly appreciated the Waldwick Environmental Advisory Committee for letting Allendale participate in our Styrofoam recycling program o On January 7 Styrofoam collection day at recycling center, 5 residents from Allendale volunteered at the collection o 40 cubic yard of Styrofoam was collected overfilling the dumpster! o 52 residents from Waldwick and 25 residents from Allendale and 7 residents from several other towns dropped off Styrofoam waste. 1|Page Meeting Minutes January 19, 2023 o Committee agreed to request the Township for a budget of $2,000 for Environmental Advisory expenses for the year 2023. o The following dates were agreed upon for Styrofoam collection for the year 2023: April 15, July 15, October 14 and January 6, 2024. • Trex Recycling Program: o A total of 270 lbs of plastic bags were collected in January 2023. • T- shirts for Environmental Advisory Committee and Green Team. o Dave Zilkowski is waiting for PNG / Vector file of Town Seal. • Green Cleaning Products and Services: o No updates. • Water Conservation ordinance o No update • Noise Conservation Ordinance o No update • Non-mandated recycling o No updates. • Compactor Update NEW BUSINESS • The following dates were agreed upon for Styrofoam collection for the year 2023: April 15, July 15, October 14 and January 6, 2024. • Update on Styrofoam Densifier. o There will be meeting of Bergen County Hub in Glenn Rock on January 30, 2023 and will discuss about compactor sharing between towns. • No Seedlings/plant distribution planned for this year instead flower seed (native flower) distribution is in discussion. • Earth day and other cleanup days were brought up. Discussion to continue at the next meeting. • Mark Ramundo to request Montclair State University to provide 2 interns to the committee under sustainable Jersey Program. • Printer cartridge disposal issues were discussed. Cartridge for kids may be used for cartridge recycling – Https://www.cfktoday.com Next meeting will be on February 16, 2023 in the council chambers.
