MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTE OF THE BOROUGH OF WALDWICK
HELD ON THURSDAY September 21, 2023 AT 7:00 PM
OPENING PORTION
• Executive Director Mr. Mark Ramundo called the meeting to order and read the Statement of
Compliance.
• Mr. Ramundo also took the roll call. Present on the roll call were Dr. Raina Parvanov-Dawson,
Dave Zilkowski, Dan Montella and David Isaacs. Councilman Paul Schatz was also present.
• Present from the public: Ted Sanzo
• Pledge of Allegiance was read.
• Motion made to waive the reading of the minutes for the June 15, 2023 meeting.
PUBLIC PORTION
1. No comments from the public.
OLD BUSINESS
Sustainable NJ Bronze Action Items https://www.sustainablejersey.com/actions/
• Sustainable Jersey:
o New Boro Administrator Steven Neale may be willing to assist with writing certain
Sustainable Jersey actions.
• Environmental News Flyer:
o To be distributed in fall 2023.
o Can potentially include updates on new benches from Trex and EV charging stations
in Boro parking lot.
• July 2023 Styrofoam collection:
o Filled approximately 3/4 of 40 cubic yard trailer/dumpster.
o Mostly Waldwick residents participated.
o Next Styrofoam collection is scheduled for October 14.
• Municipal Rain Garden:
o Environmental Committee and Beautification Committee were asked to clean or up
the rain garden.
o There is an existing issue with mulch being washed away from the garden that
needs to be addressed.
• Trex-program:
o 50bags at DPW. We hit 540 lbs...
o At this rate we could hit 2 benches a year.
o No bags for recycling can.
NEW BUSINESS
• October 14, Styrofoam collection drive:
o Allendale Green Team members will participate.

o Ridgefield Park's densifier is up and running and we could potentially be the first to
participate.
o Mark will ask home hardware about future pickup of Styrofoam.
• Composting:
o Composting will be main focus for the Environmental Committee. We can reduce the
waste disposal cost by 40% and its good for the environment.
o Two companies were identified that offer residential and commercial composting
services:

o Mark will check with Steven Neale to see if this will be an option for Waldwick residents.
• Deer Impact Mitigation:
o Discussed Snake root as a deer repellant:

• Green Team
o Specific items for the Green Team handle including checking trex collection and
maintaining rain garden.
