Meeting Minutes April 20, 2023 MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTE OF THE BOROUGH OF WALDWICK HELD ON THURSDAY April 20, 2023 AT 7:00 PM OPENING PORTION • Executive Director Mr. Mark Ramundo called the meeting to order and read the Statement of Compliance. • Mr. Ramundo also took the roll call. Present on the roll call were David Zilkowski, Dan Montella, David Isaacs Joe Oravetz and Paul Schatz. • Present from the public: Ted Sanzo • Pledge of Allegiance was read. • Motion made to waive the reading of the minutes for the March 16, 2022 meeting. PUBLIC PORTION 1. No comments from the public. OLD BUSINESS Sustainable NJ Bronze Action Items https://www.sustainablejersey.com/actions/ • Anti-Idling Action: o Anti idling signs are up across the town in a number of locations. o Kelley Halewicz needs a brief summary of the anti-idling ordinance. Ask Committee member Raina to put together a summary. o Question asked by Joe Oravetz if the entrance to the Waste Water Treatment Plant is Boro property. Signs at this entrance would be great if covered by the ordinance (and if practical) since diesel trucks idle often at this location. Paul Schatz will ask about this at the next upcoming Council meeting. • Backyard Composting Action: o Discussed the composting pilot program in Ridgewood that has ~100 participants and takes everything that is a biomass and that can be broken down. o Trenton takes the compost and makes it into fertilizer. o These materials account for approximately 30% of the solid waste by weight. o Waldwick could reduce our solid waste quantities and disposal costs if something similar is implemented • Styrofoam collection Program: o April 15th Styrofoam drive had 81 Waldwick residents participate and filled a 40 cy dumpster. o Mark reached out to Ridgewood regarding use of their cold densifier. o Consider creating a bin/dumpster for Waldwick residents to drop Styrofoam bags into and then take to Ridgewood's densifier. o Paul will ask Council if we would consider partnering and going into an agreement with Ridgewood. Our Tipping fees will offset their costs. • Trex Recycling Program: o Mark ordered all 3 TREX benches in “stepping stone” color. 1|Page Meeting Minutes April 20, 2023 • Green Cleaning Products and Services: o No updates. • Water Conservation ordinance o Paul will speak to Council about odd even days in the summer for watering lawns. • Non-mandated recycling o Mark heard back from Montclair State University regarding an intern to assist with Sustainable Jersey actions. They don't have a student available for us. • Earth Day 2023 o Rescheduled to April 29th (rescheduled again to May 6 due to rain) o Native flower seeds will be provided o Displays will include:  Anti idling  Backyard Composting  Stormwater  Water conversation o Bee exhibit - John Vervoot o Trees purchased and donated from Lions club will be planted by DPW o Beautification Committee clean up NEW BUSINESS • Dan drafted Environmental News bulletin. This can be done whenever we have something to say that (maybe Spring and Fall) Next meeting will be on May 18, 2023 in the council chambers.
