Event Committee Update Adjournment Next meeting Monday, May 4 Page 1 of 5 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES COMMISSION CONFERENCE ROOM THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2023 5:30 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee members: Discussion Items Approval of Previous Minutes Aspiration(s): What is one thing you would like to commit to leading as part of the Community Engagement Committee in 2023? Committee Leaders/ Election Neighborhood Committee - Leigh Ann Gray. Talked about creating a small survey for neighborhoods to find out whether they want to establish an identity and, if so, what would that be. Develop neighborhood-level campaign focused on Neighborhood Identity Welcome to Walker Best Practices for New Neighbors Develop a task force that includes one leader in each neighborhood i. Safety ii. Security iii. Communication iv. Collaboration Stephanie has been working on finding Walker-based neighborhood FB groups. Being part of these groups will help expand out reach. Mayor Carey, filling in for Commissioner Huizenga-Chase, brought up the point if neighborhoods have a strong identity, we can install signage identifying that neighborhood. Business Committee - Big news here as Nick Erickson became President of Walker Chamber after previous president left. Working on getting everything back on track when it comes to dues, website, and implementing regular business mixers. Community Engagement Committee Minutes 3-2-23 Page 1 2 of 2 5 Communication and Collaboration led initiative with Business Community Monthly Sub Committee Meetings at a Different Walker Business with pictures and social media a inclusion for group and Walker Business. “ Walker, Around Town Feature.” Student Committee - Student-led initiatives and events ( What will we focus on and how will we engage) Student Led Event Volunteer Committee that will join efforts for Walker Events and lead celebration initiatives like Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Event Committee - Take advantage of the memorial day parade. CEC could be in the parade and pass out info about the group and our initiatives Hoping to launch our neighborhood initiative at the first summer concert, featuring Brena, June 8. Nicole’s Right-Hand Communication and event flyers/graphics On-site support Define the events currently on the docket for the year and who will volunteer at each - link to events Voting Chair/Co-Chair - Stephanie shared she has quite a bit on her plate at the moment and feels the board would best be served by electing a new chair going forward. Motion by J. Wilmer to appoint N. Erickson as board chair, seconded by C. Hendon Motion by S. Kolakowski to appoint J.
