Public Safety Facility Updates Adjournment Page 1 of 3 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES COMMISSION CONFERENCE ROOM MONDAY, MAY 11, 2026 5:30 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee Members: Elaina Huizenga-Chase, Jessica Babcock, Roxanne Deschaine, and Gary Carey (Alternate) Also in Attendance: Keith Mankel, Brandyn Heugel, Shay Gallagher, Dan DeVries, Emily Mankel, and Scott Conners Discussion Items Approval of Minutes from April 13, 2026 and May 4, 2026 Motion by Jessica Babcock, seconded by Roxanne Deschaine to approve Approve the minutes from April 13, 2026 and May 4, 2026. Motion Carried. Police and Fire Department Updates Chief Keith Mankel provided a staffing update noting that the Battalion Chief positions are being implemented within the fire department along with the addition of an Administrative Captain position in the police department. Chief Mankel reported that he has met with Fire Department staff to discuss ongoing training efforts, the status of current purchases, and other departmental matters. He stated that the new ladder truck is expected to arrive during the week of June 22, and that a memo regarding a pumper rescue truck will be presented at the next Public Safety Committee meeting. He also noted that calls for service continue to be monitored by current department personnel. Deputy Chief Brandyn Heugel provided details regarding a recent call for service. She also shared a staffing update stating that three new hires started May 11, 2026 and they are anticipated to be assigned patrol duties by the end of the summer. Deputy Chief Heugel also provided an update on training progress of recently hired police officers. Public Safety Facility Updates Public Safety Committee Minutes 5-11-26 Page 1 of 2 Page 2 of 3 Public Services Director Scott Conners briefly reviewed prior discussions regarding public safety facilities from previous meetings. He reported that quotes for improvements to Fire Station #2 have been received from three companies and stated that a full report will be presented at the next meeting.
