Chief's Update Adjournment Page 1 of 3 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MEETING MINUTES COMMISSION CONFERENCE ROOM MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2024 5:00 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee Members: Thom Burke, Jessica Babcock, and Elaina Huizenga- Chase City Staff: Darrel Schmalzel, Frank Wash, Shannon Bales, Keith Mankel, and Chad Host Discussion Items Approval of Minutes from November 18, 2024 Motion by Elaina A. Huizenga-Chase, seconded by Jessica Babcock to approve the November 18, 2024 meeting minutes. Motion Carried. Fire Chief Position Description Approval HR Director, Shannon Bales, reviewed the Fire Chief position description stating that minor updates have been made based on discussion form the last Public Safety Committee meeting. Fire Chief Job Posting Approval Director Bales reviewed the changes and additions to the Fire Chief job posting. S. Bales asked the committee when the posting should become active and for what duration. Committee members agreed that the Fire Chief posting should go active January 6th and stay posted for 30 days. Chief's Update Chief Mankel provided updates on the Fire Department to the Committee. He stated that the 7 day schedule will begin January 11, 2024 and referenced the addition of 2 new firefighters, 1 to each platoon, as was approved by the Personnel Committee. Chief Mankel asked the Committee for clear direction and vision that the Commission would like to see for the future of the department. Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes 12-16-24 Page 1 of 2 Page 2 of 3 Chief Mankel provided staffing updates stating that the department currently employs 13 full time and 17 paid on call firefighters. He went on to say that they will be interviewing 3 individuals for paid on call positions this week. K. Mankel also shared concerns for the department. Discussion was held.
