Chief's Update Adjournment Page 1 of 3  PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES COMMISSION CONFERENCE ROOM MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 2025 5:00 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee Members: Mayor Carey (Chair), Thom Burke, and Jessica Babcock City Staff: Darrel Schmalzel, Frank Wash, Shannon Bales, Keith Mankel, and Chad Host Discussion Items Approval of Minutes from December 16, 2024 Chief's Update Chief Mankel shared updates regarding the Fire Department with the Committee including:  Fire Chief Employment posting active today, Jan. 6, 2025 and will be active for 30 days  12 hour, 6 am to 6 pm, shifts will begin Saturday, January 11th  Employment posting for 2 full-time firefighters live on January 7th  2 resignations of Paid-on-Call firefighters; currently 16 Paid-on-Call on staff  Interviewed 5 candidates for Paid-on-Call positions; 2 were offered conditions of employment  Apparatus and other project updates Discussion was held about the timeline from hire date to start date and how this can be shortened. Chief Mankel shared updates regarding the Police Department including the retirement of Detective Shawn Bailey and a conditional offer was made for a new police officer with a start date of January 21st. Discussion regarding possibility of moving the Fire Department to 24 hour shifts and how to make needed updates to stations.
