COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING on PR 24-393, State Superintendent of Education Dr. Christina Grant Confirmation Resolution of 2021 on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 12:00 pm Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast Chairman’s Website (www.ChairmanMendelson.com/live) DC Council Website (www.dccouncil.us) Council Channel 13 (Cable Television Providers) Office of Cable Television Website (entertainment.dc.gov) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing of the Committee of the Whole on PR 24-393, “State Superintendent of Education Dr. Christina Grant Confirmation Resolution of 2021.” The hearing will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 12:00 p.m., noon, via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast. The stated purpose of PR24-393 is to confirm Dr. Christina Grant as the State Superintendent of Education and head of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). OSSE serves as the District’s state education agency and is responsible for a myriad of issues such as early childhood education, including IDEA Part C services; K-12 academic oversight; special education, including non-public tuition schools and compliance; student health and wellness; administration of federal grant funding; administration of the District’s statewide assessment (PARCC); collecting, managing, and analyzing education-related data; post-secondary matters, including the administration of DC TAG, other scholarship programs, and the Higher Education Licensure Commission; adult education and linkages to workforce development; and the District’s special education transportation division. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by 5:00 p.m. on November 10, 2021. Testimony is limited to three minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. Testimony should be submitted in writing to cow@dccouncil.us in advance of the hearing. Written testimony will be posted publicly to http://www.chairmanmendelson.com/testimony. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Statements for the record should be submitted to cow@dccouncil.us or left by voicemail by calling (202) 430-6948 (up to 3 minutes which will be transcribed). The record will close at 5:00pm on November 26, 2021.
