Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public oversight hearing of the Committee of the
Whole on School Security in District of Columbia Public and Public Charter Schools. The hearing will be
held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 11:00a.m via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast.
This hearing will build on testimony received at the April 21, 2021 roundtable on school security
in District of Columbia Public Schools. That hearing focused on the initial steps being taken by the District
of Columbia Public Schools to implement a new, reimagined model of security at its schools and the
recommendations from the Police Reform Commission regarding police presence in schools and school
security, testimony from the public regarding police presence and school security and plans from DCPS
and PCSB regarding revised security plans for School Year 2021-2022. As of the date of this forthcoming
hearing, DCPS will have managed the security contract for one year. This hearing will be an opportunity
to hear from DCPS on the changes to their security model and implementation progress.
