COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING on PR 24-557, “Zoning Commission Anthony Hood Confirmation Resolution of 2022” PR 24-576, “Board of Zoning Adjustment Lorna John Confirmation Resolution of 2022” on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Noon Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast Council Website (http://www.DCCouncil.us) Chairman’s Website (http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/Live) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing before the Committee of the Whole on PR 24-557, the “Zoning Commission Anthony Hood Confirmation Resolution of 2022” and PR 24-576, the “Board of Zoning Adjustment Lorna John Confirmation Resolution of 2022.” The hearing will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Noon. via zoom video conference. The stated purpose of PR 24-557 is to confirm the re-appointment of Anthony Hood to the Zoning Commission. The Zoning Commission is charged with preparing, adopting, and subsequently amending the Zoning Regulations and Zoning Map in a means not inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan for the National Capital. The Zoning Commission also considers a variety of zoning cases such as Planned Unit Developments, campus plans, and may consider, sua sponte, Board of Zoning Adjustment cases. The stated purpose of PR 24-576 is to confirm the re-appointment of Lorna John to the Board of Zoning Adjustment. The Board of Zoning Adjustment is an independent, quasi-judicial body with the ability to grant relief from the strict application of the District’s zoning regulations in the form of variances, to grant special exceptions where authorized under the Zoning Regulations, and to hear appeals from actions taken by the Zoning Administrator of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. The purpose of this hearing is to receive testimony from government and public witnesses as to the fitness of this nominee for reappointment to the Commission. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Testimony is limited to 3 minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. The hearing will be conducted virtually on the Internet utilizing Zoom video conference technology. Testimony should be submitted in writing to cow@dccouncil.us in advance of the hearing. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. The record will close at 5:00pm on May 2, 2022.
