COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING on Bill 24-658, Consumer Protection Procedures Amendment Act of 2022 on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Chairman’s Website (www.ChairmanMendelson.com/live) DC Council Website (www.dccouncil.us) Council Channel 13 (Cable Television Providers) Office of Cable Television Website (entertainment.dc.gov) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing before the Committee of the Whole on Bill 24-658, the “Consumer Protection Procedures Amendment Act of 2022.” The hearing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast. The purpose of Bill 24-658 is to prohibit retaliation against consumers who report consumer protection violations pursuant to the Consumer Protection Procedures Act (CPPA), to allow the Office of Attorney General (OAG) to bring consumer protection cases against political action committees and charitable groups that have violated the CPPA, to establish a minimum penalty for CPPA violations, to enhance the OAG’s ability to gather information during investigations of consumer protection violations, and to authorize the Mayor and the OAG to issue rules necessary to implement the law. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Testimony is limited to four minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.
