Parks and Recreation Committee
October 2, 2019
The October 2, 2019 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Phil Willems at
5:30 pm.
PRESENT: Phil Willems, Gary Herzberg, John Pomeranke, Susan Brown, Susan Rather and Bob
Khouri.
ALSO PRESENT: Tyler Hansen and Jennifer Hansen, 6492 Harvest Moon Court, Waunakee. Sue
McDade - Community Services Director, Rick Moran - Public Works/Parks Supervisor, and Jeff Skoug –
Recreation Program Supervisor.
MINUTES
A motion by Gary Herzberg / John Pomeranke to approve the minutes of the
September 4, 2019 Park and Recreation Committee meeting was approved.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Bob Khouri offered a compliment to the Village Center team members (Travis Steuber and
Duane Statz with help from the DPW/Parks crew) who cleared the duckweed off of the Village
Center Pond in preparation for the Yahara Fishing Club kid’s fishing program.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Consider Eagle Scout Project – Tyler Hansen – DPW/Parks Facility Sign Landscaping
Eagle Scout candidate Tyler Hansen appeared before the committee to share the details of his proposed
project. The overall project includes the installation of a new sign, relocation of the flag poles and lights,
Curb Appeal border around the planting bed and new landscaping. As a part if his project, Tyler will be
responsible for removal of the existing landscaping materials and then planting and placement of bark
mulch once the sign, flag poles, lights and edging have been installed by others. Tyler is requesting
approval of the project and funding assistance of $640 (an additional $150 will be requested from the
Boy Scout Eagle Fund).
The committee expressed their support for Tyler and his project. Because the Village will incur the cost
of the sign, the relocation of the flag poles and the new flag lights, the committee encouraged Tyler to
do a bit of fundraising for the project to reduce the Parks PAYGO contribution.
A motion by Gary Herzberg / Bob Khouri to approve Tyler Hansen’s Eagle Scout
Project with a maximum cost share from the Parks PAYGO Fund of $640 was
approved.

2. Consider Parking Lot Lighting – Meadowbrook Park.
A motion by Gary Herzberg / Susan Brown to approve the installation of parking lot
lights in Meadowbrook Park – with a recommendation that staff consider adding a third
light closer to the shelter – was approved.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion by John Pomeranke / Susan Rather to adjourn was approved. (5:55
p.m.)
Respectfully Submitted:
