VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee August 5, 2020 The August 5, 2020 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Phil Willems at 5:34 pm. PRESENT: Phil Willems, Gary Herzberg, John Pomeranke, Susan Rather, Bob Khouri and Tim Luttrell. ALSO PRESENT: Kent Straus – Strand Associate, Kyela Specht – Strand Associations, Sue McDade - Community Services Director, Bill Frederick – Public Works/Parks Superintendent, and Jeff Skoug – Recreation Program Supervisor. Xander, David and Kaela Priest. Meadowbrook Neighbors – Curt LeCaptain, Scott Nachazel, Jenna Rutkowski, Jessica Albers, Amanda Palm, Kathy Scheffler, Jennifer Emond, Brad Huelsman, Ron Betzen, Chris Neitzel, Jodi Benz, Brian Benz, Chat Gutbrod. MINUTES A motion by Bob Khouri / Gary Herzberg to approve the minutes of the July 1, 2020 Park and Recreation Committee meeting was approved. NEW BUSINESS 1. Consider Approval of Eagle Scout Project – Xander Priet – Meadowbrook Park Xander appeared before the committee and reviewed his plans for the rain garden that he hopes to install in Meadowbrook Park as his Eagle Scout Award Project. A motion by Bob Khouri / Tim Luttrell to approve Xander Priest’s Eagle Scout project – rain garden in Meadowbrook Park with $100 of funding from the Parks PAYGO Fund was approved. 2. Consider Alternatives for Additional Parking in Meadowbrook Park Kent Straus from Strand Associated briefly reviewed the two alternatives proposed for additional parking in Meadowbrook Park. Alternative 1 adds parking to the existing lot along the west side of the park and Alternative 2 suggested a new lot to be constructed on the east side of the park between the channel and the tennis court. This option also provided a second access into the park – connecting with Pleasant Valley Parkway. Many neighbors attended the meeting and expressed their concerns about Alternative 2 and the potential for additional traffic directed through their neighborhood. A motion by Gary Herzberg / John Pomeranke supporting Alternative 1 and tabling the item to a future meeting, was approved.
