VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee August 3, 2022 JOINT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING The meeting was called to order by Gary Herzberg at 6:00 p.m. PRESENT – Town of Westport: Amy Freidig, Michelle Wing, Mick Holm, Ben Buss, Jessica Duffrin – Executive Assistant, Dean Grosskopf - Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer, Robert Anderson – Utility, Finance & Information Systems Manager, Deputy Clerk-Treasurer, Barry Buckwalter – Public Works Supervisor. PRESENT – Village of Waunakee: Sam Kaufman, Phil Williams, Gary Herzberg, Bob Khouri, Jon Pomeranke, Susan Rather, and Tim Luttrell. Sue McDade – Waunakee Community Services Director, Bill Frederick – Waunakee Director of Public Works, Ryan Endres – Waunakee Public Works/Parks Supervisor, Jeff Karls – Waunakee Public Works/Parks Crew Leader. ALSO PRESENT: Becky Binz – Planner, MSA Professional Services, David Dies – 931 Lexington Way, Waunakee. NEW BUSINESS 1. Joint Meeting of the Waunakee and Westport Park Committees – Review Public Survey Results and Quantitative and Geographic Analysis Becky Binz from MSA hosted a review of the work that has been completed to date on the plan update. This included quantitative analysis of park acreages and the facilities included in our parks – showing the relationship to standards set by communities across the country and the National Recreation and Parks Association. She then reviewed the results of the community-wide survey that was completed in June. Committee members from both communities shared their thoughts and questions relating to this information. The next joint meeting of our committees is scheduled for September – the exact date is TBD. WAUNAKEE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. MINUTES A motion by Bob Khouri/Phil Willems to approve the minutes of the July 6, 2022, Park and Recreation Committee meeting was approved. Park and Recreation Committee Minutes – August 3, 2022 – page 2. PRESENTATIONS 1. Presentation of Results of Strand Associates Task Order No 21-01: 2021 Sixmile Creek Path Planning. Kent Straus from Strand Associates presented the results of the 2021 Sixmile Creek Path Planning Project. He reviewed information about the surrounding property owners, potential project partners, proposed materials for the path, a draft layout for the location of the path and permitting steps that would be required to actually construct the path. No action was taken at this meeting. NEW BUSINESS 1. Consider Prairie Park Shelter Project Per a request from Committee Member Khouri, this project was placed on the agenda for re- consideration. The committee discussed the attributed of this type of shelter and the benefits it might bring to the park. The idea of adding a drinking fountain to the park was also considered. A motion by Bob Khouri/Phil Willems to keep the Prairie Park shelter on the Parks PAYGO Project List was approved. 2. Consider Request for Amplified Music in the Peaceful Valley Park Shelter – August 13, 2022 A motion by Phil Willems/Sam Kaufmann to approve the request for Amplified Music Permit from Tom O’Rourke for the Annual Neighborhood Fish Boil scheduled for August 13, 2022 in Peaceful Valley Park was approved.
