Parks and Recreation Committee
April 4, 2018
The April 4, 2018 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Gary
Herzberg at 5:30 pm.
PRESENT: Chris Zellner, Gary Herzberg, Phil Willems, Susan Brown, John Pomeranke, Dave
Jost, and Bob Khouri.
ALSO PRESENT: Tom Slaten – Orange Shoe Fitness, Heather Raffel – Waunakee HS Cross
Country, Diane Anderson and Lisa Middleton – Relay for Life, Tyler and Jennifer Hansen, 6492
Harvest Moon Court, Jacob Himmelman – Aro Eberle Architects. Sue McDade - Community
Services Director, Bill Frederick – Public Works/Parks Superintendent, Rick Moran - Public
Works/Parks Supervisor and Jeff Skoug – Recreation Program Supervisor.
MINUTES
A motion by Phil Willems/Dave Jost to approve the minutes of the February 2,
2018 Park and Recreation Committee meetings was approved.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Consider Permit for Fitness Programming in Meadowbrook Park by Orange Shoe Personal
Training
A motion made by Susan Brown/Phil Willems to approve the permit for Fitness
Programming in Meadowbrook Park by Orange Shoe Personal Fitness was
approved.
2. Consider Request from WaunaBoom for the Use of Ripp Park on July 3 and 4, 2018
A motion made by Phil Willems/John Pomeranke to approve the use of Ripp
Park and all of the associated fee waivers for the WaunaBoom Celebration to
be hosted on Wednesday, July 4. 2018 was approved.
3. Consider the Use of Ripp Park for the Run the Ripp Community 5K Cross Country Race
A motion made by Dave Jost/Susan Brown to approve the use of Ripp Park for
Run the Ripp – Waunakee Community 5K Cross Country Race was approved.
4. Consider Updated Plans for Relay for Life Event – Ripp Park – June 15, 2018
A motion made by Chris Zellner/Phil Willems to approve the updated plans for
Relay for Life on June 15, 2018 was approved.
5. Consider Meadowbrook Park Shelter Plans and Cost Estimates
Sue McDade and Jacob Himmelman of Aro Eberle Architects reviewed the proposed shelter
plans and cost estimates for the Meadowbrook Park shelter plans. Revised cost estimates are
within the funding capacity for the project and plans are underway to construct the shelter this
summer. Scheduled for Plan Commission review on April 9 and approval to bid from the
Village Board on April 16.

A motion made by Dave Jost/Bob Khouri to recommend that staff move
forward to publicly bid the Meadowbrook Park shelter construction project was
approved.
6. Consider Lighting in Ripp Park
The committee discussed a proposal from Waunakee Utilities to place 4 street lights in Ripp
Park along the Ripp Park drive. Similar lights are currently installed in both Village and
Centennial Parks. Sue McDade reported that Chief Plendl agreed that lighting in the park
would be a positive addition for general safety reasons. The committee members agreed on
the concept – but asked that the item return to the May agenda to allow for a notice to be
sent to the neighbors adjacent to the park.

A motion by Phil Willems/John Pomeranke to adjourn was approved. (6:40
p.m.)
