VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee May 2, 2018 The May 2, 2018 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting was called to order by Phil Willems at 5:30 pm. PRESENT: Chris Zellner, Phil Willems, Erin Moran, Susan Brown, John Pomeranke, and Bob Khouri. ALSO PRESENT: Dan Roelke – 1513 Aldora Lane, Sue and Dave Coyle – 902 Raymond Road, John Roessler – 513 Dorn Dive. Scott and Brian Frost – 906 Pasadena Parkway, Ken Pesik – 113 Winston Way, Sue McDade - Community Services Director, Bill Frederick – Public Works/Parks Superintendent, and Jeff Skoug – Recreation Program Supervisor. MINUTES A motion by John Pomeranke/Bob Khouri to approve the minutes of the April 4, 2018 Park and Recreation Committee meetings was approved. OLD BUSINESS 1. Consider Lighting in Ripp Park Several neighbors appeared to share their thoughts about the proposal for lights in the park. A motion made by Chris Zellner/Susan Brown to recommend approval of the Ripp Park lighting project with funding from the 2018 Parks PAYGO Funds – asking staff to also investigate other lighting options such as near the water tower, and each of the walking paths on the north and south ends of the park – was approved. NEW BUSINESS 1. Consider Eagle Scout Project – Scott Frost – Kids Don’t Float Village Center Pond Scott Frost appeared before the committee with plans to install an open-air kiosk near the Village Center Pond that will house lifejackets available for people to borrow as they enjoy the fishing pier. This project will be funded by the Waunakee Rotary and they have also offered their assistance for on-going care and maintenance. A motion by Bob Khouri/John Pomeranke to approve the Eagle Scout project proposed by Scott Frost - Kids Don’t Float - at the Village Center Pond was approved. 2. Consider Amplified Music in the Parks Permit Requests A motion made by Chris Zellner/Erin Moran to approve the Amplified Music in the Parks Permit as presented by staff was approved. 3. Consider Bids for the Centennial Park Tennis and Basketball Court Rehabilitation Project. Park and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes – May 2, 2018 – page 2 Staff explained to the committee that bids for this project were opened on Friday April 27. Only one bid was received and it was considerably more than the anticipated budget. It is staff’s recommendation to reject this proposal and re-bid the project in the fall in the hopes that additional contractors might be interested. A motion made by Chris Zellner/John Pomeranke to reject all bids received for the Centennial Park Tennis and Basketball Court Rehabilitation Project with the intent of re- bidding in August was approved.
