VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE Parks and Recreation Committee October 4, 2023 The meeting was called to order by Sam Kaufmann at 5:30 p.m. PRESENT: Sam Kaufmann, Robert McPherson, Phil Williams, Tricia Braun, Tim Luttrell, and Bob Khouri. ALSO PRESENT: Blake Theisen and Katie MacDonald, Parkitecture+Planning. Jean & Jeff Ryan – 600 Raymond Road, Bill Redmond – 902 S. Holiday Drive, Jim & Linda Mueller – 602 Raymond Road, Jessie and Tate Chhith – 520 Raymond Road, Tiffany Loken – Woodland Drive. STAFF PRESENT: Jared Heyn – Deputy Administrator/Communications Manager, Sue McDade – Community Services Director, Bill Frederick – Director of Public Works, Ryan Endres – Public Works/Parks Supervisor, Jeff Skoug – Recreation Program Supervisor. MINUTES A motion by Bob Khouri / Phil Willems to approve the minutes of the September 6, 2023, Park and Recreation Committee meeting was approved. PUBLIC COMMENT Bob Khouri thanked the DPW team for the addition of a pedestrian crossing sign on Raymond Road. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Centennial Park Playscape Planning – Continued Conversation Blake Theisen from Parkitecture+Planning was on hand to continue the planning process for the playscape in Centennial Park. The first topic covered was the final site layout. It was agreed that the playground will be placed in the area currently hosting playground and splash pad will to the north of the shelter. The Parkitecture team lead a discussion about theming for the park with all supporting a natural theme including trees, flowers, and natural materials. Finally, based on materials supplied by interested vendors, Landscape Structures, represented locally by Gerber Leisure Products, was selected as the vendor for the playground. 2. Consider Donation Proposal for Permanent Lighting on the Village Park Main Shelter and the Village Center. Phil Willems shared his idea of providing permanent lighting on the Village Park – Main Shelter and the Village Center. He has been raising private funds to cover the cost of this project, with enough donations secured to cover the park shelter and the parks side of the Village Center. He plans to continue his fundraising to finish the entire project by 2024. Park and Recreation Committee Minutes – October 4, 2023 – page 2 A motion by Sam Kaufman / Tim Luttrell to recommend that the Village Board accept this donation was approved.
