PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
A regular meeting of the Public Works Committee was held
Tuesday, October 22, 2019, 5:30 p.m., at
Waunakee Village Hall
500 West Main Street, Waunakee, WI
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Willems, called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
Present: Phil Willems, Gary Herzberg, Nila Frye, Dennis Hampton, Joe Olson, Brian
Wallace
Absent: Erin Moran
Also present: Kevin Even, Bill Frederick, Jim Madden, Kent Straus, Eric Sullivan.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion Wallace, second Olson, to approve the June 25, 2019 minutes. Motion carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Eric Sullivan called attention to the lack of terrace trees in certain areas of the village and
asked members to consider implementing a village run bare root nursery with volunteers
to do the planting.
Herzberg arrived at 5:37 p.m.
NEW BUSINESS DISCUSSION/ACTION
Discussion/Action on Proposed Mill & Overlay Streets for 2020
Mr. Even presented a revised list of possible streets. The Village Board approved an
increase in the streets budget at their meeting the previous evening. This allows for the
additional projects for next year’s list. Motion Wallace, second Frye, to recommend that
staff finalize the list and take the Strand task order to the Village Board for approval.
Motion carried.
Discussion/Action on Proposed Engineering & Grant Application for Arboretum
Drive/STH 113 Intersection Improvements
Mr. Even explained that there is grand funding available for this type of project and is
seeking a recommendation on moving forward with the engineering portion. Motion

Olson, second Wallace, to recommend pursuing the grant application, based on the
discussion, for upgraded turn lanes at Arboretum Drive and STH 113. Motion carried.
Discuss Tree Planting for Reconstruction Projects and CTH Q.
After discussion, and in consideration of Mr. Sullivans presentation, the committee
directed staff to investigate DNR grants for a tree nursery on a motion by Herzberg,
seconded by Frye. Motion carried.
Discussion/Action on Woodland Drive Bump Repairs
Mr. Even gave an update on this project. The repair attempt last year did not work. Staff
wants to try another approach on four of them. Two in the Village, and two in Westport.
If this works, they hope to use it on the remaining humps next year. No action necessary.

Motion Herzberg, second Frye, to adjourn the meeting at 6:19 p.m. Motion carried.
