Waunakee Area Fire District 401 West Second Street Waunakee, WI 53597-0472 May 2026 Fire District Meeting Minutes May 21, 2026 The Regular Monthly Meeting of the Waunakee Area Fire District was called to order by Chairperson Gary Endres. Roll call; showed in attendance: Gary Endres, Nila Frye, Kristin Runge, Joe Pichette, and Dave Laufenberg, Chief Josh McWilliams, Deputy Chief James Anderson, and Batt. Chief Brian Adler. Absent: Compliance with Open Meeting Laws: Chairperson Endres asked if we were compliant with Open Meeting Laws, and it was determined that we were. Public Comment: 1. None Meeting Minutes: A motion was made by Dave Laufenberg and a second was made by Nila Frye to approve the April 2026 Meeting Minutes. Motion carried. Bills: A motion was made by Kristin Runge and a second was made by Nila Frye to approve the April 2026 bills. Motion carried. Old Business: 1. None New Business: 1. District Board Elections – A motion was made by Kristin Runge to nominate Gary Endres as the Fire District Board Chairperson. The second was made by Nila Frye. No other nominations were made. Gary Endres was elected District Chairperson. A motion was then made by Kristin Runge to nominate Dave Laufenberg as the Fire District Board Vice-Chairperson. The second was made by Nila Frye. No other nominations were made. Dave Laufenberg was elected District Vice-Chairperson. 2. District Attorney – A motion was made by Kristin Runge and a second was made by Nila Frye to retain Stan Riffle as the district’s attorney. Motion carried. 3. Future Planning – Kristin Runge prepared and read a statement to the board detailing the Village of Waunakee’s withdrawal from the fire district. Joe Pichette reminded the board that the district still exists after Waunakee’s withdrawal. The board then discussed how to determine the district’s assets and value of the assets. A motion was made by Joe Pichette and a second was made by Dave Laufenberg to hire a third party to do an independent evaluation of the district’s assets and the value of the assets. 4. Chief’s Address – Chief Josh McWilliams read a statement sharing the concerns and frustrations that the Village of Waunakee’s withdrawal from the district has created within the department’s membership. Other Business: Batt. Chief Adler shared that Baker-Tilly will have to terminate their accounting services to the district unless a significant pay increase is approved. 1 Fire Inspector’s Report: Batt. Chief Brian Adler shared the April 2026 run report. Next Meeting: Monday, June 29, 2026 Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was made by Dave Laufenberg and a second was made by Joe Pichette.
