Waunakee Utilities Commission Meeting September 25, 2017 Members Present: Paul Endres Roxanne Johnson Steve Kraus Shirley Nelson John Roessler Chris Thomas Excused: Chris Zellner Others Present: Tim Herlitzka Dave Dresen John Roessler called the regular meeting of the Waunakee Utilities Commission to order at the Waunakee Utilities facility at 322 Moravian Valley Road. Public Comment There was no public comment. 2018 Budget and Cash Reserves Policy The commission was presented a proposed timeline for the 2018 budget process. Staff also discussed a proposed cash reserves policy which will be presented at an upcoming meeting. Property Acquisition The commission was provided an update on the status of the property adjacent to the Industrial Substation. Hiring of Assistant Electric Superintendent The commission was informed about the candidate to be offered the Assistant Electric Superintendent position. Employee Performance Matter A motion was made by Steve Krause and seconded by Roxanne Johnson to go into closed session to discuss an employee performance matter in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes 19.85(1)(c) for the purpose of considering employment or performance evaluation of a public employee over which the utility commission has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. Motion carried after affirmative roll-call vote of all commissioners. A motion was made by Steve Krause and seconded by Shirley Nelson to reconvene in open session. Motion carried after affirmative roll-call vote of all commissioners. Village-Wide Construction Projects The commission was updated on the Hovde and library projects. Electric Superintendent’s Report The electric superintendent discussed providing assistance in installing power to the round-a-bout, the new tie circuit for the Industrial and Division Street substations, sending two crew members to Florida for mutual aid assistance, and the Hwy Q 3-phase loop. 3 General Manager’s Report The general manager informed the commission about an employee resignation, the status of the new website, the follow-up provided by WPPI staff to a question about the WPPPI power supply mix, and WPPI losing a major customer and the impact this might have on the utility. Financial Statements The August financial statements were presented. Consolidated operating income is $8,000 under budget for the month but $109,000 over budget for the year-to-date.
