Event Updates
• Old Webster Summer Night Street Dance – The event was very well attended and
considering having to stop for approximately an hour and a half and shutting down
early all due to thunderstorms it was a success. The food trucks worked out well.
Unfortunately, there were no volunteers to help with the cleanup.
• Old Webster Jazz & Blues Festival – The lineup has been released and the permit
issued. The main focus now is soliciting sponsors. The event takes place on
September 18.
City Update
• Eurotrash, an interior design firm, is going into the former dry-cleaning business next
to Dewey’s Pizza in Old Webster.
• Betty’s Books, a comic bookstore, is going into part of the former Gymboree space
in Old Orchard.
• Lona’s Lil Eats in Old Orchard has withdrawn due to their personal issues.
1 of 2
• Code amendment changes in C and D Commercial Districts to allow multi-family as
a permitted use as long as it meets a set of regulations and does not require a
Conditional Use Permit (CUP) will be before City Council on July 6th.
• Patterson Performing Arts’ CUP using classroom space at Webster Groves
Presbyterian Church will be at City Council.
• Rolling Ridge’s “Willow in Webster” CUP to use some of their existing space for
during the off season or in the evenings for events has been approved. They hope
to start using the space late summer or early fall.
• Play Daze is looking for a new space in the Zeta Dell business neighborhood, they
are no longer at Webster Groves First Congregational Church.
• Public hearings for the Douglas Hill CUP (a.k.a. N. Old Webster Proposed
Redevelopment) continue to take place at the Plan Commission. The first meeting
focused on the process and two hours of public comment. The next meeting will be
a presentation by the developer, SG Collaborative as well as Staff’s review.
• Proposition #1 will be on the August ballot. City Council approved code amendment
changes in the A4 residential zone for two-family homes with restrictions. A
referendum was brought forward to appeal the change, City Council voted not to
overturn the changes, which resulted in a public vote. A No vote keeps the changes
and a Yes votes overturns them. Information is available on the City website.
• The budget for the District was approved as submitted; no changes. The overall City
budget was approved.
• The Public Works Department is moving to their facility and the Planning
Department will move from their current location on the west side of City Hall to the
vacated Public Works space on the east side of City Hall.
Next Meeting
Commission meetings will start to be in-person with either the July or August meeting;
they will also have a hybrid option.
Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 8:00 AM via Zoom.
