STAFF REPORTS
PARKS
Barbre Park will have its sculpture delivered middle of May. Dedication ceremony is set for June 1 at 2 pm.
Southwest Park renovations were completed this winter. Unfortunately, the concrete pour under the new
pavilion was poured on frozen ground. This caused the concrete to crack in several spots. We have been
waiting till we know that there is no more settling that will occur. Then contractor will come back out and
demo the cracked concrete and pour new concrete.
We hosted our Arbor Day celebration in Southwest last night. We planted about 110 trees across the park.
We are at the tail end of the design phase for renovation of the Memorial Park tennis courts. We hope to have
this out to bid early-middle next month, with construction to start in June.
We now have pavilions that can be rented at Southwest, Glen Park, Marshall Ave Trailhead, and Lorraine
Davis Parks. This is in addition to the pavilions at Blackburn, Larson, Ivory Crockett, Deer Creek, Margaret,
and Gazebo Parks.
RECREATION
Cosmic Skate has been a huge boon for our department. We had an article published in our state association
magazine about the program. The program has brought in over $26,000 worth of revenue.
Mayors and senior administration of Rock Hill and Webster Groves met late this winter to discuss Rock Hill
usage of the Webster Groves pool. We provided Rock Hill with four plans they could potentially choose
from. 1. Split all cost evenly by population (RH 17% $68,911 for FY18). 2. RH pay difference between R and
NR rate on all memberships and daily admission and WG will invoice in full at conclusion of season. 3. RH
sets a not to exceed number for subsidy. 4. RH purchase NR daily admission in advance at full cost. Sells
them to their residents at whatever rate they decide. As of today we have not heard anything back from them.
The week after the meeting the RH newsletter came out and mentioned that RH residents could once again
enjoy the Maplewood Family Aquatic Center at R rates.
