Chief Curtis confirmed to the board that this was a national change affecting only this year and was made with no notice to the departments. Cindy Neu suggested the board make a statement reflecting the change in the data and acknowledging how it impacts the disparity rate. Responses from our Retreat--What can we do with this information? How can we make it take action? What are the goals of engagement?  Authenticity  Builds relationships  Builds trust with all members of the community  When the police show up, is there relief or fear? With whom do we want to engage?  Neighborhoods, Organizations, Schools  Start with the Black and Brown community (where the relationship is most fractured)  Where are most of the calls? What steps are being taken to educate the audience so it can engage in a meaningful way?  Surveys  Friday Pages  Webster-Kirkwood Times  Create a Mission/Vision/Values for the board What steps are being taken so those who choose to engage are actually being heard? minutes  Survey to more diverse groups  Put the survey in the Friday Pages What will be done to respond to input, in order to show respect for those who participated?  Make the discussion of survey responses (comments) a regular part of the PCEB monthly meeting agenda.   Review and discuss Goal Setting from the Retreat. How can we prioritize and start to decide what we can do Now/This Month/in Two Months? Short Term Goals  Use feedback/data in meeting discussions  Recreate the Wesley Bell role-play with students  Recreate the Wesley Bell case reviews (what took place, how, why)  Sponsor an event in the park with the community and police: fun Field Day events  Entertain board collaboration with other boards (ex: Parks and Rec) Long Term Goals  Plan a Fall Event and put on calendar  Develop Mission/Vision/Values  Mayor Welch and Cindy communicate about how we can spread the survey to more people.  Plan a retreat once a year (Spring?) Discussion Discussion was had regarding the above agenda item including but not limited to Questions regarding the concentration of calls for service in different areas of Webster Groves (KS) question was addressed by Chief Dale Curtis who will compile call information form the past 3 years showing concentration of calls., Questions regarding the possibility of rotating SRO’s (KM) question was addressed by Capt. Greg Perks explaining the process by which the SRO’s are assigned and the training involved.
