Francine Nelson had an excused absence. Ms. Albright arrived at 6:46 pm Others present: Central Regional Superintendent Frank Rodriguez, Instructional Superintendent Vivian Green, Instructional Superintendent Edward Tierney, Incoming Wellington High School Principal Cara Hayden, Wellington High School Principal Mario Crocetti. IV Opening Comments V Approval of Agenda Motion by Ms. Gillespie, seconded by Ms. Retterbush to approve the agenda as presented. Motion passed 6-0 with Ms. Nelson absent. VI Approval of Minutes A. EC-055 MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 29, 2017 EDUCATION COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING A motion was made by Ms. Hayden, seconded by Ms. Gillespie to approve the August 29, 2017 minutes as presented. Motion passed 6-0 with Ms. Nelson absent. VII Old Business A. None VIII New Business A. EC-056 COMMITTEE SAC REPORTS Mr. Rodgriquez shared information on Panther Runs Heroes for Education 5K and New Horizons Power of Code program. He introduced New Horizons new Assistant Principal Orlando Mastrapa and incoming Wellington Community High School Principal Cara Hayden. The Committee provided School Liaison (SAC) reports for their assigned schools. Village of Wellington Page 1 Education Committee Action Summary December 5, 2017 B. EC-057 UPDATE ON STUDENT MENTORING PROGRAM Ms. Albright provided a brief update on the student mentoring program. A training had been held for seniors and volunteers had been placed at New Horizons. C. EC-058 DISCUSSION OF COMMITTEE MEETING DATES AND FREQUENCY The Committee discussed the current quarterly schedule and the governing documents. It was suggested that the Committee be flexible and utilize the option of scheduling a special meeting if and when the need arose for additional meetings beyond the quarterly schedule. Ms. Gillespie added that she appreciated the ability to participate in meetings remotely on occasion. IX Public Comments Mr. Crocetti provided follow up regarding the recent incident at Wellington High School. He also reported that graduation had been set for May 17th at noon at the fairgrounds. X Staff Report Ms. Edwards provided information on the Civics 101 with Palm Beach Central and Wellington High Schools in coordination with Village staff. The Florida League of Cities was conducting an essay contest for middle school students entitled "If I Were Elected Mayor". The Community Services office was in need of additional tutors on Tuesday evenings from 4 to 6 pm. Ms. Albright reported on the 2017 Toy Drive in coordination with InterFaith. There was discussion regarding assisting Wellington schools in promoting their events on the Village's website and social media outlets. XI Closing Comments Planning had begun for this year's Project Graduation which would take place at Village Park. Additional adult volunteers were needed to supervise the event. Members thanked Mr. Crocetti for his many years of service at Wellington High School. XII Adjournment Ms. Baxter made a motion, seconded by Ms. Albright.
