SAC15-031 Presentation - Education Committee
The scheduled speaker was not able to attend and was rescheduled.
Ms. Tuckwood gave an update on recent and upcoming programs and events.
Mr. Nebb mentioned it is a Village Council meeting and they would be voting
on the Senior Club Funding.
Mr. Soto said he has information on County programs and would pass it along
so a partnership can be created.
Ms. McCue asked if there were a lot of calls from seniors for assistance. Ms.
Tuckwood mentioned that the Hurricane Helpers program was able to help a
number of residents but that the demand was far higher than the program was
able to handle.
Mr. Trager asked if it was possible to do a CPR class. Ms. Tuckwood said she
would look into it.
Mr. Trager also asked about plans for getting information to the public. Ms.
Tuckwood said they planned to use the newsletter, the Golden Banner,
newspapers etc.
Ms. Schwartz asked how the newsletter gets to the seniors because she had
not received one. Ms. Tuckwood said it goes in the mail and that if she could
be provided with names and addresses of people who did not receive the
newsletter she could be sure they were added to the mailing list.
V. OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Trager mentioned that there have been multiple articles concerning the
success of public schools and that the key is volunteers. He also thanked Ms.
McCue for her work on the project she had done with connecting seniors.

VII. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mr. Fransetta from the public suggested that the committee forward a request
to Council that the meetings be played on tv at stated times. He suggested
that maybe it would help get more people at the meetings.
Mr. Trager reminded those in attendance that the Senior Advisory Committee
was going to be invited to the next Senior Club meeting so they could be
introduced to the members.
VIII. BOARD COMMENTS
Ms. McCue asked if they could know about who would be speaking at
upcoming meetings. Mr. Boyd said he could get the agenda out slightly earlier
if that would help.
Ms. Kastner asked if Mr. Trager had communication with the Council. Mr.
Trager explained that communication has to go through the Village Manager.
Mr. Nebb warned that calling members to discuss upcoming meetings could be
a violation of the Sunshine Law.
Ms. McCue mentioned that there are a lot of opportunities to volunteer outside
of schools as well.
Mr. Trager mentioned the next meeting would be November 10th.
