CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bell at 7:00 p.m. B. R-2005-0162 Resolution to confirm and adopt the report of the City Engineer containing the schedule of proposed assessments for improvement of S. 72 St. from W. National Ave. to W. Burnham St. by concrete reconstruction of the pavement including miscellaneous sidewalk repair, new driveway approaches, storm sewer, sanitary sewer relay, water main relay, building services and utility adjustments. Explanation of the proposed Resolution by Michael Lewis, City Engineer Appearances: Brett Burris of Kempsmith Machine Company, 1820 S. 73 St. and 1819 S. 71 St., objected to the cost of the project and questioned the benefits to his business. He favors patching the pavement, and opposed the project. Dolores Gunderson, 1716 S. 72 St., commented on the heavy trucking on the street. She further commented on the curb, alley and traffic. Michelle Michaels, 1744 S. 72 St., indicated that the improvement is unnecessary at this time. She questioned concrete versus asphalt, and favors patching since it is not a thru street or main thoroughfare. Lynn Gunderson, 1716 S. 72 St., questioned the duration of the project. She commented on alley traffic, and requested caution for her retaining wall. Inquired about the procedure for special assessments and objected to the paving itself. 3. R-2005-0118 Resolution Relative to Vacation and Discontinuance of Public Off-Street Parking North of West Cleveland Avenue between South 84th Street and South 85th Street. Explanation of the proposed Resolution by Michael Lewis, City Engineer Appearances: William Liska, 7833 W. Becher, agent for the Estradas at 8424-26-28 W. Cleveland Ave., commented on the location of entrances from W. Cleveland Ave., requested provision of an easement, and favors the vacation. Russ Vollmer, 8410 W. Cleveland Ave., commented on special assessments, taxes, maintaining and repairs. Inquired about the possibility of work orders from the Building Inspection Department. Further inquired about change in assessment and a survey of the parking lot. Michael Smith, 8440 W. Cleveland Ave., Cleveland Auto, favors vacating the property and has no objection to the easement. He described his plans for landscaping. 4. O-2005-0022 Ordinance to amend various sections of the Revised West Allis Municipal Code to permit tanning salons, employment agencies, and photography studios as a permitted use within all commercial districts and to permit physical culture and health services (including swimming pools, gymnasiums, sport/health clubs and health spas) as a special use within all commercial districts. Richard Siebenaller, 8719 W. Orchard St., commented on big box stores, TIF Districts and reported developments. Pam Zorko , 6224 W. Grant St., introduced herself as the new President of the West Allis Community Media Center, and is looking forward to working with the City and the residents of West Allis. F. Taped the recent On Site West Allis Show featuring The West Allis Charities. Attended a training session with The West Allis Community Media Center Board. Attended an annual Breakfast at Library Square. Met with the new President of The West Allis-West Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce. Legislative or Intergovernmental Activities: Attend The League of Municipalities Regional Dinner. An Update Meeting on the ICC regarding legal action by the Attorney General about sewer overflows. Attended a SEME meeting with area Legislators. Attended the Retirement Dinner for the Mayor of West Bend. Met with representatives of West Milwaukee regarding their Centennial in 2006 Announcements: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, May 30th.
