CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Gerise LaSpisa, President, West Allis-West Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce, 7149 W. Greenfield Ave., announced two upcoming events. The annual Membership Dinner and Awards Banquet is scheduled for February 22nd. Diane Brandt will be receiving the Citizen of the Year Award. Barbara Hart will be receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award. TDS Metrocom will be receiving the Business of the Year Award. The Education Foundation's annual Community Day at the Milwaukee Admirals is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on February 26th. City of West Allis Page 1 Printed on 12/21/2018 Common Council Meeting Minutes February 21, 2006 Janet Schaak, 1133 S. 117 St. and 2081 S. 56 St., requested reconsideration of the resolution adopted on February 7th regarding the improvement of S. 56 St. She does not object to the reconstruction of this street, but stated that the timing and cost for the project is a great burden and hardship. She asked that the project be delayed for planning purposes, and has circulated a petition in opposition of the project. Ms. Schaak compared this project to others that have been delayed. She described the history of the building and property, and her effort to sell the property. James Mejchar, 3200 S. 116 St., introduced Eliza Prince, P.O. Box 902, Pewaukee. They described the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life scheduled for July 14th and 15th at Nathan Hale High School. They encouraged involvement and attendance. Robert Braun, 2160 S. 86 St., on behalf of the Christian Civil Liberties Union and Stop the Violence, commented on his involvement with a project in regard to dealing with drunk drivers. Violet Braun, 2160 S. 86 St., inquired about the bricks for her brother in the service. F. ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECESS MEETINGS OF STANDING COMMITTEES Mayor Bell announced that the following Committees would meet during recess: Administration & Finance, Public Works, Safety & Development, License & Health, and Advisory. G. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Mayor's Report Public Events: Gave one presentation on the Centennial. Attended one ribbon cutting. Taped her On Site West Allis at Municipal Court with Judge Murphy. Greeted the Counsel General of the Republic of Slovenia. Taped a greeting for TV 6. Intergovernmental: Attended the unveiling of a study of Inner Ring Communities by the Brookings Institute in Washington D.C. Announcements: Admirals Hockey Game is scheduled for Feb 26th. UW Varsity Band Concert is scheduled for March 27th. Tickets are available in the Mayor's Office. Alderpersons Comments Ald. Weigel reported on One Fine Night at Parkway Rec. He announced an educational meeting hosted by the Department of Transportation scheduled for February 23rd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. regarding reconstruction of the W. National Ave. and W. Oklahoma Ave. connection. H. O-2006-0011 An Ordinance to repeal and recreate Section 2.02 of the City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code relative to Appointees, Officials, and Employees and repeal and recreate Section 2.09(2) of the City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code relative to Powers and Duties of the Mayor. This Matter was Passed on a Block Vote. 4. R-2006-0041 Resolution relative to adopting two new policies for inclusion in the City's Policies & Procedures Manual relative to (1) recruitment, selection, appointment and confirmation for City Officials and Department Heads, and (2) disciplinary action for City Officials and Department Heads appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council.
