City of West Allis Meeting Minutes Historical Commission Wednesday, November 14, 2018 4:02 PM City Hall, Room 128 7525 W. Greenfield Ave. REGULAR MEETING A. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Jenny Kosek at 4:02 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present 7- Mayor Dan Devine, Ms. Sarah Fonaas, Mr. Devan Gracyalny, Ms. Barbara Hart, Mr. Ray Nazer, Mr. John Noll, and Ms. Patricia Wolfe Others Attending Shaun Mueller, Community & Economic Development Coordinator Jenny Kosek, Communications Strategist C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. 18-00650 October 10, 2018 (draft) Minutes Attachments: Minutes (draft) October 10, 2018 A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Ms. Fonaas, that the minutes of the October 10, 2018 meeting be approved. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 7- Mayor Devine, Ms. Fonaas, Mr. Gracyalny, Ms. Hart, Mr. Nazer, Mr. Noll, and Ms. Wolfe No: 0 D. NEW AND PREVIOUS MATTERS 2. 18-00651 Financial Report - Devan Gracyalny, Vice Chair/Treasurer Mr. Gracyalny reported that as of November 14, 2018, the balance on hand is $4,045.70. A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Mr. Nazer, that the Financial Report be approved. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 7- Mayor Devine, Ms. Fonaas, Mr. Gracyalny, Ms. Hart, Mr. Nazer, Mr. Noll, and Ms. Wolfe No: 0 E. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION 3. 18-00652 Report from the West Allis Historical Society It was reported that the Holiday Open House will be held on Sunday, December 2nd from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. City of West Allis Page 1 Printed on 12/19/2018 Historical Commission Meeting Minutes November 14, 2018 4. 18-00653 Status Reports - Historical Commission Projects and Activities A. Log Schoolhouse The Christmas tree for the Log Schoolhouse will be coming from 2108 S. 97 St. Franklin Grade School will be visiting the Log Schoolhouse on Thursday, November 29th at 9:00 a.m. B. Seneca Station Mr. Gracyalny will check with the Public Works department with regards to Christmas lights and a wreath for decorating the station. C. Settlers Weekend Mr. Gracyalny reported that we do not have a major sponsor yet for the 2019 Settlers Weekend. He also mentioned that the Police Reserves can no longer assist. Various ideas were discussed by the committee. It was also noted that attendance was down a bit this past year. D. Historic Preservation Grant Mr. Mueller reported that he has applied to the State Historical Society for a grant to designate Mitchell Manor as an Historic District on the State and National Register. E. Social Media Updates There are currently 60 followers of the website with over 400 website visits per month. 5. 18-00654 Certificate of Appropriateness Application for a proposed fire pump room addition to the building located at 6623 W. Washington St. Discussion ensued regarding the proposal. It was the consensus of the committee to hold the item, until a better, more appropriate plan is presented. 6. 18-00655 Discussion regarding proposed changes to the Historic Preservation Ordinance in regards to requiring owner’s consent for local designation Mr. Mueller indicated that the State Historic Preservation office was requiring communities to update their Historic Preservation Ordinances to remove the owner approval requirement for local designations. F. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Ms. Wolfe to adjourn the meeting at 5:01 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
