Board of Police Commissioners

REGULAR MEETING WEST HAVEN BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS MAY 3, 2016 The Regular Meeting of the West Haven Board of Police Commissioners was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Police Headquarters, 200 Saw Mill Rd., West Haven. Present were Commissioners Raymond Collins, Deborah Wright and Paul Butler, Jr. Andrew Giaquinto and Keith Sweeney. Also present were Chief John Karajanis, Deputy Chief Joseph Perno, Det Sean Faughnan President of Local 895 and Brent Watt, Council Liaison. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Chairperson Collins called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. There were no items were added to the May 3, 2016 Agenda. A motion was then presented Commissioner Butler to accept the May 3, 2016 Agenda as amended. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Wright and approved unanimously. 1. Minutes of April 19, 2016 The following addition was made to the Minutes of April 19, 2016: Add Commissioner Wright was present at the meeting. A motion was then presented by Commissioner Butler to accept the Minutes of April, 19, 2016, as amended. The motion was seconded by by Commissioner Wright and approved unanimously. 2. Public Input None 3. Communications 3.1 Letter of Appreciation – Chief Karajanis – Carol Keyes & Family 3.2 Letter of Appreciation – Chief Karajanis &WHPD – Andreoli Family 3.3 Letter of Appreciation – Chief Karajanis & WHPD – Pam Skeens Family 3.4 Letter of Appreciation – Chief Karajanis, MPO Costanzo & Traffic Div. – Al Lindblom 4. Report of Chief Chief Karajanis reported that he attended a South Central Chief meeting with Post. He noted this is a very interesting time in Police activities. He noted that in the 21st study in Policing, there is nothing in the report that the WHPD is not working on, things are in place and going in the right direction. Also reported that there may be a Youth Police Academy  -2- opened to 15-17 years old and from different areas of the City and that it may lead to future officers. There would be classes, physical activity, recommendations, etc. 5. Old Business None 6. New Business None 7. Pension Board Chairperson Wright reported that Dave Moran from Morgan Stanley will be at the 5/17/16 meeting and will give a synopsis on what will happen when is absent due to illness for about 5 -6 weeks. 8.
