REGULAR MEETING WEST HAVEN BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS APRIL 19, 2016 The Regular Meeting of the West Haven Board of Police Commissioners was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Police Headquarters, 200 Saw Mill Rd., West Haven, CT. Present were Commissioners Raymond Collins, Paul Butler, Jr., Andrew Giaquinto, Keith Sweeney and Deputy Chief Joseph Perno. Chief John Karajanis, Sgt Sean Faughnan, President of Local 895 and Brent Watt were not present. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Chairperson Collins called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. There were no items added to the April 19, 2016. A motion was then presented by Commissioner Butler to accept the April 19, 2016 Agenda. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Wright and approved unanimously. 1. Minutes of April 5, 2016 Minutes Special Meeting – March 31, 2016 There were no corrections/additions made to the Minutes of April 5, 2016 and Minutes Special Meeting March 31, 2016. A motion was then presented by Commissioner Wright to accept them. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 2. Public Input None 3. Communications (Con’t) At this time Commissioner Wright addressed the Commissioners regarding the exceptional work done by the Traffic Units for Funeral escorts. She noted from personal experience what a great job they do and how they are watched by many other departments. She noted she was extremely proud of the Units. Commissioner Collins also added that he too was extremely proud of the Units due to personal experience. 4. Report of the Chief None 5. Old Business None 6. New Business 6.1 Promotion to Sergeant – Ofc Debra D’Amato A motion was presented by Commissioner Wright to approve the promotion to Sergeant for Ofc Debra D’Amato, effective 04/22/16. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. At this time Deputy Chief Perno noted that Sgt D’Amato started with the department on 05/15/1997 and was with Patrol, Recruitment, Traffic but that he had the most respect for her as a SRO at Bailey Middle School and noted that the students respected her highly. He also noted that she received many commendations. 7. Pension Board Chairperson Wright had no report 8. Report of Committees – Personnel Committee No report. 9. Commissioner Reports No report. 10. Executive Session A motion was presented by Commissioner Wright to enter into Executive Session at 7:10 pm to discuss the following: 10.1 Special Victims Unit Monthly Report - March 2016 The motion was seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously.
