REGULAR MEETING WEST HAVEN BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS June 6, 2017 The regular meeting of the West Haven Board of Police Commissioner was held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 7:00PM at the Police Headquarters, 200 Saw Mill Rd. West Haven Present were Commissioner Raymond Collins, Paul Butler Jr., Deborah Wright, Keith Sweeney and Peter BonTempo. Also present were Chief John Karajanis, Jr. and Deputy Chief Joseph Perno. Absent was Dave Russell, City Liaison. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Chairperson Collins called the meeting to order at 7:00PM The following item were added to the June 6, 2017 Agenda: 10. Executive Session 10.1 Staffing A motion was then presented by Commissioner Sweeney to accept the June 6, 2017 Agenda, as amended. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 1. Minutes of May 16, 2017 The following corrections were made to the Minutes of May 16, 2017 – After the Pledge of Allegiance Commissioner Collins called the meeting to order. 2. Public Input- Cheryl Martone. A motion was presented by Commissioner Sweeney to accept the Minutes of May 16, 2017 as amended. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 2. Public Input Victor Borras spoke to the Commissioners regarding a Latin Music Festival 3. Communication 3.1 Letter of Appreciation – D/Sgt Reilly, Det Casman & Ofc Hayward- Tabitha Rosario 3.2 Letter of Appreciation – Sgt Ciccosanti, Ofc Michael Doyle and Traffic Div. – Richard & Karyn Turcotte & Family 3.3 Letter of Appreciation – Traffic Div. – Carol Carboni 4. Report of the Chief May 17-Went to Hartford for CHRO (Ofc. Gonce) complaint, cancelled to be rescheduled May 18 – Opened Internal Affairs Investigation.  May 19 – Went to Corporation Council’s Office and spoke with Henry Szadkowski regarding BYOB/Bicycle Ordinance both of which were being worked on and should be submitted to City Council for June. May 22 – Attended City Council Meeting (Open Session) and spoke about Police Body Worn Cameras. May 22 – Went to Wethersfield with Corporation Council, Henry Szadkowski, and Human Resources, Beth Sabo, regarding discipline of Officer Gonce. May 23 – Meeting with Branford Chief of Police and States Attorney regarding investigation that occurred in Branford utilizing our officer in an undercover capacity. May 24 – Attended Special Events meeting at City Hall regarding Spanish Cultural Music festival planned for June 23, 2017 at Old Grove Park. May 31 – Hosted West Haven Police Community Meeting June 5 – Attended Pre ATAC meeting 5. Old Business None 6. New Business 6.1 Fireworks – Monday, 7/3/17 A motion was presented by Commissioner Sweeney for the Fireworks and seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 6.2 Block Party Middlefield Rd Sunday, 7/2/17 A motion was presented by Commissioner Sweeney for the Block party and seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 6.3 School Procession/Concert Friday, 6/9/17 A motion was presented by Commissioner Sweeney for School Procession/Concert and seconded by Commissioner Butler and approved unanimously. 7. Pension Board None 8. Report of Committees – Personal Committee None 9. Commissioner Reports None 10. Executive Session 10.1 Staffing Commissioner Sweeney motioned to go into executive session, seconded by Commissioner Butler, and approved unanimously at 7:30pm.
