Westminster Tree Commission MINUTES OF MEETING Wednesday, March 11, 2015 City Hall, 7:00 PM 1. Call to Order a. Statement of Authority b. Roll Call – In Attendance: Chairman Allgeier and Commissioners Mays, Wilt and Wilbur. Marge Wolf served as City staff. 2. Approval of Minutes a. The Commission approved the minutes of the February 11, 2015, meeting on a motion by Chairman Allgeier, seconded by Commissioner Wilt. 3. Old Business a. Commissioner May distributed the descriptive comments for the trees identified on the Bennett Cerf Trail. These descriptions will be added to the website set up by Bartlett. She will complete the identified tree descriptions and forward them to Jessica for inclusion. b. Random House has been notified about the Arbor Day celebration and the employees have been invited to attend the Arbor Day planting. The Board of Commissioners will also be invited to the ribbon cutting for the trail. The City will work with the Department of Recreation and Parks to prepare the sign. c. The details on the keynote speaker are still being worked out by Bartlett and Chairman Allgeier is soliciting a speaker from Florida for the Workshop in 2016. d. The details on the keynote speaker are still being worked out by Bartlett. The Tree Commission will have a booth at the Flower and Jazz Festival on May 11, the day before Mother’s Day. At the last meeting, Bartlett had indicated that they would donate seedlings to be distributed and the Commission members also decided to prepare seed packets with a Tree Commission logo. The Northeastern seed mix will be placed in 500 seed packets by volunteers. and Chairman Allgeier is soliciting a speaker from Florida for the Workshop in 2016. 4. New Business a. Chairman Allgeier proposed the establishment of “Tree Tender” groups of students and volunteers to assist with the monitoring of the health of our street trees, minor pruning, etc. He is attending seminars on establishing these groups. There are currently no such groups operating in Maryland. 5. Adjournment – The meeting was adjourned at 5:25pm upon a motion by Commissioner Wilt, seconded by Commissioner Wilbur.
