SOUTH AREA FIRE & EMERGENCY RESPONSE DISTRICT
Board of Directors Regular Meeting
Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 @ 6:00 P.M.
A. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District Board of Directors was
called to order at 6:00 PM by SAFER Chairman Barb Ermeling.
MEMBERS PRESENT – Ermeling, Opall, Langenhahn, and White, Kachel excused. Chief Savage, DC
Finke, And EMS Division Chief Bechel also present.
B. Correspondence/Comments from the public on issues related to the SAFER District
C. Consent Items
Approval of prior meeting minutes from last meeting and postpone voucher approval until next
meeting.
White/ Opal to approve prior meeting minutes from October 10th, 2017
Motion Carries Unanimously.
D. Business Items
2018 Budget
No changes to the budget since last meeting. Possibly look at ACA next year and other options.
Checking on the purchase or lease of a new ambulance.
White/Opal Motion to approve budget “as is.” Motion carries unanimously
Ambulance Billing Company
Discussions took place on three companies that could do our ambulance billing. One did not
come back with a quote. Andres Medical Billing and LifeQuest were discussed.
White/Langenhan Motion to accept LifeQuest as new ambulance billing company for 2018
E. Staff Reports
Chief
Discussions with another FD had taken place and their final decision was not to join SAFER at
this time. Operationally. we are doing well.
Finke
There are six new hires for FF/EMT or RN and two new promotions that are waiting for
approval from the Fire Commission on their next meeting soon.
F. Remarks from the Board of Directors to set the next meeting date, as well as discuss items for
the next meeting agenda. Set next meeting for December 12th.

This regular meeting of the SAFER Board of Directors, composed of a Quorum of members, will
convene at SAFER Station #1, 5901 Hummingbird Rd., Wausau, WI on Wednesday November 1st, 2017
at 6:00 P.M.
A. Opening of Session.
1. Meeting called to order by Chairman Ermeling at 6:00 p.m.
2. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
3. Clerk will take attendance and roll call.
4. Request for silencing of cellphones and other electronic devices.
B. Correspondence/Comments from the public on issues, or matters which the SAFER Board of Directors has
oversight over.
C. Consent Items
(The Consent agenda contains routine items and will be enacted by one motion without separate
discussion unless a body member requests an item be removed for separate consideration and vote.)
5. Approval of prior meeting minutes from October 10th, 2017
6. Voucher Approval for October.
D. Business Items
7. Discussion and Possible approval of 2018 Budget.
8. Discussion and Possible action on bids for new ambulance billing.

This notice was revised and posted at the Rib Mountain and Weston Municipal Centers, and on the Village of Weston’s website at
www.westonwi.gov, and was emailed to local media outlets at least 24 hours prior to above scheduled meeting. A quorum of
members from other SAFER District, Town of Rib Mountain, and Village of Weston governmental bodies (boards, commissions, and
committees) may attend the above noticed meeting to gather information. No actions will be taken by any other board, commission, or
committee of SAFER / Town / Village, aside from the SAFER Board of Directors. Should a quorum of other government bodies be present,
this would constitute a meeting pursuant to State ex rel. Badke v. Greendale Village Bd., 173 Wis.2d 553,494 N.W.2d 408 (1993).
Wisconsin State Statutes require all agendas for public meetings be posted in final form, 24 hours prior to the meeting. Any posted
agenda is subject to change up until 24 hours prior to the date and time of the meeting. Any person who has a qualifying disability as
defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act requires that meeting or material to be in accessible location or format must contact the
Rib Mountain Municipal Center at 715-842-0983, at least 12 hours prior to the meeting so any necessary arrangements can be made to
accommodate each request. All items listed above are for discussion and possible action by the body.
