Zeyghami said that in discussions with YMCA staff, it was mentioned that pickleball
courts could be installed at the Weston YMCA with the request that the Village fund
part of the installation, but they did not know what direction they wanted to go in and
would have to do a study of their entire complex to make that decision. If the Village
was going to provide funding towards this, the pickleball courts would need to be open
to the public. Zeyghami requested to consider hiring a consultant to design the courts
at Machmueller Park and that be brought back on the June agenda.

62. Discussion and/or action on Weston Avenue (CR-X to Ryan St.) Redesign (on recording
https://youtu.be/d6LQZ4Zp5oQ?t=5017)
Wodalski explained that state laws have changed in that a municipality can no longer
use condemnation procedures for a sidewalk or anything that would be used for non-
vehicles. A few property owners on Weston Avenue have been adamant not to sell
their property if it is going to be used by pedestrians. Because of this, the roadway will
have to be made wider to accommodate pedestrians on the shoulder. The original plan
was to have a multiuse path on this project, but the Village is not able to do that now.
Board members expressed their wish for a curb with a sidewalk on the north side of the
road to accommodate pedestrians and keep them separate from traffic. It was directed
that staff work on potential options for a curb and sidewalk.
Motion by Pinsonneault, second by Hartinger to authorize staff to work with
AECOM to redesign Weston Avenue from CR-X to Ryan Street to remove the
multi-use path from the north side of the road and add additional width to the
shoulders and additionally ask that sidewalk is added, a pedestrian
accommodation, separate from roadway by a curb so it is not constructed how
Ross Avenue is at this time.
