Agenda for the Environmental Committee Meeting Date: March 15, 2021 1. Opening – Dave Brizzolara “This meeting, which conforms with the OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS LAW, CHAPTER 231, PUBLIC LAWS OF 1975, is a regular Environmental Committee meeting. Notices have been filed with our local official newspapers and posted on the Municipal Bulletin Board”. 2. Roll Call – X Dave Brizzolara Dritan Xhillari X Norel Blundo X Boniface Kiamue X Kathryn Cribbin X Councilman Chris Montana 3. Public Forum – 4. Passing of the February Meeting Minutes 5. Council Liaison’s Report – New candidate members updates? Do we have any potential new members? i. Chris provided a list of candidates; will call in date order – Updates on renewables in Westvale Park? – Meeting with/message to scoutmasters for scout project opportunities 6. Earth Day (April 22!!!!!) Environmental Scavenger Hunt: provide clues, read placards; use Westwood’s outdoor assets; prize could be sustainable products – Norel – need to make sure the clean up is being done this year; has not seen anything in the messaging; do we want to do it same day as the cleanup? Do we want to take away from either event? We may want to have the scavenger hunt be more than one day? – Dave – thought you would be able to get more participants – Kate – If you made it a longer experience, the first day (the Clean Up day) could be the kickoff and you could tie it into Westwood Anniversary in May – Chris – if we end up doing something on April 24, Arbor Day is April 30th, Celebrate Westwood on May 8, maybe tie a whole bunch of days together? There is an area along Meadowbrook Park that is in desperate need of clean up. Sponsor with bags and not much else? – Boniface – is it possible that we could map out multiple places and document what has been done in each area? – Chris – another place with a lot of garbage is along Old Hook Road – Dave – we could have members at each location that can take before and after pictures to document the clean up and the difference made – Chris – we could get Shade Tree, WEAC, and Green Team to participate – Norel – Christine Blaney did a lot of coordination historically – Kate – could work up a sign up on the website maybe? – Norel – would also need to coordinate garbage pick ups with the DPW; we have a start date on scavenger hunt and an end date; get notification out whether it be newspaper or website or Facebook – Kate/Norel/Chris – need to keep it simple, but try to get people to different locations seeing parts of the town that maybe some have not seen – Chris – maybe give a prize for the most bizarre piece of trash; who will be leading this and putting this together? – Dave/Chris – start with notifications and we can put it together as we move closer to the date – Kate – will take details provided by Chris to come up with a sign up sheet 7. Communication Initiative with the Community Update – Kate Cribbin – Google doc i. Kate – do we have a mission statement? Pulled some examples from other town’s websites ii. Chris – get back to Kate by Friday iii. Committee looked at samples of the logos developed by Kate iv. Chris to get Kate jpeg file for logo v. Chris – Let’s not overthink the logo – Updates on Municipal Website or Facebook page? i. Social Media guidelines sent earlier – seem straight forward ii. Kate – will start to put together the Facebook page iii. Chris to reach out to other committees to see how they handle who the owner of the page is iv. Boniface to work with Kate on this – Boniface – spread the word through the churches 8. 2021 Town Cleanup – See #6 9. Current Initiatives: Renewable Resources and Waste Management (Dritan Xhillari) Home Landscape/Lawn and Garden (Norel Blundo) Nugent Park (Dave) TREX – could partner with sustainable NJ initiatives from Jodie Murphy
