Agenda for the Environmental Committee Meeting Date: April 13, 2021 1. Opening – Dave Brizzolara “This meeting, which conforms with the OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS LAW, CHAPTER 231, PUBLIC LAWS OF 1975, is a regular Environmental Committee meeting. Notices have been filed with our local official newspapers and posted on the Municipal Bulletin Board”. 2. Roll Call – X Dave Brizzolara X Dritan Xhillari X Norel Blundo X Boniface Kiamue X Kathryn Cribbin X Councilman Chris Montana 3. Public Forum 4. Passing Meeting minutes 5. Council Liaison Update – Chris: working through some issues at the community garden with the soil disruption permit to get the water supply system set up i. Very expensive permit – Cathy Harrington said the road to the community garden is closed off because cars would be damaged by the potholes left by the plows – Jeanne’s replacement names sent to Karen Hughes 6. Town Clean up: – WEAC members to attend? i. Everyone to be there, but Norel might be late. Starting at 9:30, going until 12. ii. Chris – we should pick 1 or 2 spots 1. Westvale Park and Meadowbrook Park along Broadway over by baseball field 2. Could also look across from Westwood Cemetery pond and also back behind the hospital at the end of Palisades and Westwood Blvd iii. Norel – should we cut off the volunteers at some point? iv. Kate – thinks we should pick a third spot v. Dave – we should meet in one location to have a safety briefing vi. Rain date – should hold it the next week, May 1 and could coincide with Arbor Day – Attendance from public? Update from Kate? i. 27 people have signed up so far, not including WEAC members ii. Kate to send the volunteers an update April 20 1. To wear long pants and long sleeves (ticks could be bad), work boots, sunscreen – Advertisement for the cleanup in Pascack Press and on Facebook page and Municipal Website i. Karen has posted something on the Town site news flash already – Chris Montana – DPW garbage pickup between noon and 1 – Supplies and set up  Bug spray  Water  Work gloves  Trash bags (contractor bags supplied by DPW)  Grab poles – Chris to ask Rick Woods  Chris to pick up bagels  T shirts?  Suitcase scale – Dritan to bring  Pop up tent - Dave – Photographer (one of us pictures for an article in the paper and for our social media) i. Designate each of the WEAC members to take pictures and then follow up with the Pascack Press ii. Take pictures of the accumulated bags in the end so we have a sense of how many bags were collected 7. Environmental Scavenger Hunt – How do we roll out? i. Norel – we should separate this from the clean up to keep up the momentum, maybe we do this in May and June 1. Still keep this a 2 week event so that people don’t have to do this all at one time ii. Kate – can we do this with Westwood Pride day? iii. Chris – doesn’t know if it will happen this year iv. Norel – Prize? Something with an environmental theme? Something like a shop local gift card v. Chris – to check the line item in the budget for awards for public events, could potentially find a benefactor vi. Norel – something that might be applicable across different family members? 1. Gift certificates from local stores and restaurants? 2. Will this be a problem for anyone in the town? Walking on the Borough Hall lawn. Need safe accessibility. 8.
