MINUTES OF CITY OF WHARTON PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING City Hall, 120 East Caney Street, Wharton, Texas Tuesday, May 19, 2020 5: 30 p.m. City Manager Andres Garza, Jr. declared a meeting of the City Council Public Works Committee duly open for the transaction of business at 5: 33 p.m. Committee Members present: Councilmember Don Mueller and Councilmember Terry Freese. Committee Member absent: Councilmember Clifford Jackson. Staff Members present: City Manager Andres Garza, Jr., Finance Director Joan Andel, Assistant to the City Manager Brandi Jimenez, Community Development Director Gwyneth Teves and Public Works Director John Plaia Staff Members absent: None. Visitors present: Mr. Albert Villegas, Wharton Journal Spectator. Public comments. There were no public comments. The first item on the agenda was to review and consider minutes from the meeting held March 9, 2020. Councilmember Don Mueller made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Councilmember Terry Freese seconded. All voted in favor. The second item on the agenda was to review and consider City of Wharton 2020 Street Improvement Project. Public Works Director John Plaia presented an update of the City of Wharton 2020 Street Improvement Project to the Committee. He stated that the Public Works Department had been working on the City' s portion of the 2020 Street Program which included street sweeping, shoulder edging, tree trimming, patching or repair work. He also stated that he had received an Engineering Contract with BEFCO Engineering, draft specifications, a proposed schedule, and a sample roadway exhibit. After some discussion, no action was taken. The third item on the agenda was to review and consider FM 1301 Extension and Railroad Overpass Project. City Manger Andres Garza, Jr. stated to the committee that the City Staff had been working on financing for the project. Finance Director Joan Andel presented the Committee three( 3) financing options. He also stated to the Committee that the City Staff is currently working on the agreement for engineering with IDC Engineering. After some discussion, no action was taken.
